Hello Friends,

How is everybody?? Good I hope! Well, my parents finally came to the USA on June 25 on a Green card after being rejected twice for their tourist visa. They came here on IV5 visa. the process was very simple at the port of entry no questions just a breeze here in Dulles international.

My question is how long does it take to receive the green card in the mail?? Can I call a number to find out what the status is on their green card?? Also being here almost 2 months now, they are home sick already.(They are old who have lived all their lives in India dad is 76 mom is 70) they really want to know what is the min and max time they have to be here in the US without losing their US Permanent Residency? We don't want them leaving early or something and then having problems getting back in the country. Please help guys my parents want to get IDs, open bank account and just settle here in the USA as soon as possible before they lose their mind.

Also, until their Green Card arrives, we are unable to get them health insurance as that requires a SSN, which they cannot get until the GC arrives. At the same time, we know there is a time limit/grace period for them to get the necessary insurance mandated by law. Would it be advisable for them to pay the tax for not having coverage versus the high cost some companies are asking due to their age? Please advise.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate it.

They have green card in their passports.look at the immigrant visa page that's stamped - there's verbiage that says upon endorsement serves as temp I-551 (that's green card) for one year.

Go to SSA and get their social security numbers issued and get them insurance.

hi

you didn't mention if you paid for their GCs

they have the temporary i551 stamp in their passports until they receive the card in the mail, they can travel, live and work with the stamp

the stamp means they are residents

they can also go to the social security office to get their number
