Medical Exam Questions

Hello everyone,

So my fiancée had her medical exam on 8/8/16. She was told at this time that she didn't need immunizations and that she could get them in the US (what?). She was also scheduled for a psychological evaluation for 8/16/16. She just finished her psychological evaluation and was told that she would have to pick up the results in 2-3 business days. She is also scheduled for immunizations on 8/23/16. The USEM visa interview is on 8/24/16.

Here are my questions/issues:

1. We have a trip to Vietnam scheduled from 8/18/16 - 8/23/16. She doesn't get back to Manila until noon on 8/23/16. Will she be able to get her immunizations that day? Why does she even need them if she was told she could get them in the US (this seems like bogus info)?

1b. She has been told that she cannot get her immunizations until after they release the results of the psychological evaluation to her. I'm not sure why the immunizations are contingent on having a completed psychological evaluation. Would she be able to just show up on 8/18/16 for immunizations without having the results for the psychological evaluation?

2. She has been told that SLEC is not forwarding the medical results to the USEM anymore, that she will be given all the results and has to take them to the USEM herself. Is that the case now?

2b. If the results of the psychological evaluation are ready while she's out of the country, would her mother be able to pick them up in her stead?

3. Will she be able to go to the visa interview without having the medical complete? From other threads it seems like she'll just get a 211g until they get the results.

3b. If she gets a 211g and the medical results are being released to her, how would she go about delivering the results to the USEM.

Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone,

I don't know the reasoning behind why they told her she didn't need them, unless of course there was one or two needed and they were out of the serum for those. Yes typically one will need some shots. SLEC will determine which she will need based on a number of factors to include but not limited to her interview and her blood work. She should leave from the airport and go right to SLEC to get her shots. Be sure to have a copy of the DS-160 confirmation page.

1b. She has been told that she cannot get her immunizations until after they release the results of the psychological evaluation to her. I'm not sure why the immunizations are contingent on having a completed psychological evaluation. Would she be able to just show up on 8/18/16 for immunizations without having the results for the psychological evaluation? I have not heard that before.

2. She has been told that SLEC is not forwarding the medical results to the USEM anymore, that she will be given all the results and has to take them to the USEM herself. Is that the case now? Has been the case for 2 years. Sometimes they will be the one who sends the medical but most times it's the beneficiary who carry's them to their interview.

2b. If the results of the psychological evaluation are ready while she's out of the country, would her mother be able to pick them up in her stead? No. Just have your fiance' pick them up when she goes for her shots. Don't over complicate this process as you want everything to go smoothly since you have such a tight window.

3. Will she be able to go to the visa interview without having the medical complete? From other threads it seems like she'll just get a 211g until they get the results. Yes. But expect a delay of about 2-3 weeks for final approval and visa delivery. Your mileage may vary.

3b. If she gets a 211g and the medical results are being released to her, how would she go about delivering the results to the USEM. She just retrieves them from SLEC and she walks up to the BIG DOOR and knocks on it and wait for the Wizard to answer. She picks them up and delivers them to USEM. Just needs to see a security guard at the front and explain what she is doing. They will direct her from their.

Thanks in advance.

I wish you luck. You really put a lot of strain on your process by scheduling this trip to Vietnam. I'm scratching my head on this one. Oh well.

Well, we had planned the trip half a year ago (the plan being to see each other every 6 months), even before starting the K-1 process so the flights, hotel, and time off from work were all already scheduled. We weren't expecting for her interview date to be scheduled so close to the trip or that she would have to even do the psychological evaluation.

Hi Greenbaum that part about the wizard answering the door gave me a good laugh.. Dorothy from the wizard of Oz

What a coincidence, my fiancée looks like a pinay Dorothy, so the metaphor is quite appropriate  .

In any case, thanks for the help.

Some updates:

My fiancee kept calling SLEC daily and they told her that everything was ready on the day she was flying out she was able to get her vaccinations in the morning and still make her flight later that day. They also told her they would be forwarding the entire package to USEM due to the psychological evaluation having to be kept sealed (why they told her that she would have to take it to USEM in the first place is beyond me).

We went on our trip and looked over all of the documents she had and prepared for the interview.

She went to the interview yesterday and passed so everything worked out  .

Thanks Greenbaum for your very specific help and thanks Visa Journey and the entire Visa Journey community for making a daunting process less of a headache.
