Just a quick question. Since the Adam Walsh Act came into place, Hubby and i decided to stay here for another year to save alot more $$$ to move back with.

If we put in for our I-130 now, how long till we have to get the interview done? Does this make sense?

You have maximum of 6 months to depart for the USofA from the time the beneficiary gets the visa stamped in his/her passport.

I think the average processing time is 3 months from applying to finally getting the visa, so figure on 9 months total.

If you're counting from today, I wouldn't file the I-130 until June 2007.

Good luck.

I believe the approved petition is good for 1 year.

ONCE we were in a situation a little like yours. I know it's not a question one asks often here, it's always the other way around, hurry rush rush hurry........ like it is for us NOW!

Call them and just ask. Australia might have different guidelines. Just make sure.

Anyways at the time, I called the Rome Embassy (about a year ago) and they said that my approved I-130 petition would be valid for 1 year. At the time I had thought to just drag the process out, I could try to stretch it out to 9 months or so, but I changed my mind and thought I'd file when the time came.

And wouldn't you know it, the time came when we needed it ready and now we're stuck we're waiting and worrying!

Let us know what you find out and Good Luck!
