Yes because your citizenship status may not have made it to the SAVE database if your ceremony was just Friday. That's what Social Security told us when we went. DMV said the exact same thing. My husband's had been updated but it was at least a week after the ceremony when we went in.

i went to a SS office to update my information a week after I became naturalized. I submitted an application to update the record, the staff informed me that my information hasn't been updated in the system. They put my file together with other files from other applicants (there must have been over ten applications in that folder). The staff handed over a document confirming the receipt of my application. In the document, there was mention that the process might take up to 3-4 weeks and if approved I should be getting a new SS card by mail. They took my original SS card away though.

Do I have to wait 10 days to let social security know I am a citizen? I had my oath ceremony on Friday.

If you are not in a hurry and applying for a passport, I would go ahead apply for a passport and by the time you get your passport and certificate you can update your social security status. My personal experience I waited about 2 weeks than went and changed my status and was successful doing that.
