after the visa interview the consular gave me a white 221g letter and asked me to email them the details that were marked in the letter.I have already mailed them details of the information that was mentioned in the 221 G letter, on June 17, 2016. It's now more than 60 days from the day i gave the interview, i would like to know the reason of this delay.

My classes are going to star 18th of august i have made the travel plans like that, but i have still not got any updates. I am very depressed and upset regarding that my whole carrier is on the line
No idea if I will get the visa. No idea if I will still have the admit when I get the visa. No idea what is going on, why I am being being scrutinised. How much longer should I put my life on hold and wait?? I have worked hard tos ecure an admit. Why do the US univs admit if we are going to be put on meaningless delay and cannot join?

The US universities have no say in the visa process. University did it's job; the US govt now has to do it's part to conduct background checks and verify any loose ends before making a decision on the visa.

No one here on visa journey can tell you how long it will take.It depends on your case.Obviously the Consular Officer was not satisfied with either the answers you gave or your case.

You are told not to make travel arrangements until visa is in hand.

If it is worth quitting over, it was never worth much to you to begin with.

If you truly want to pursue your dream of studying your PhD in the U.S. then you must play their game and send them what they want. Contact the university and see if they will delay your enrollment date, perhaps a semester, that will give you more time to secure your visa.

Don't quit, chin up and play the game

Good luck

Hey! I am in the exact same situation as yours, waiting since June 30. My classes are also beginning next week. Believe me, I tried to do my best to get my visa in time. I tried every possible way to find out how my visa can get stamped before the classes begin. I contacted the Embassy in Turkey several times via e-mail and by calling. I also attempted to contact the White House by sending e-mails to Mr. President twice and the First Lady once, as well as sending e-mails to the Department of Justice. I reached out to people who happened to have connections inside the Embassy, but it wasn't helpful either. Even my supervisor sent a petition to the Department of State in the U.S. Each passing day made me realize more how my hands were tied in such a unique situation.

Believe it or not, I also went through the psychological breakdown that you are having (I still kind of am). But, the least I can tell you is that no university or professor is going to take away your right to education because of a bureaucratic obstacle that you have absolutely no influence or control over. All you have to do is to send your professors an explanatory e-mail, express your sorrow and your determination for your research field. You will see how understanding and helpful they will be. Most likely, your TA or RA offer or whatever you're given will be secured one way or another.

In the meantime, you can take this opportunity to spend some time for yourself. Plan a trip to South America or something like that. I know that's what I will be doing!

Cheer up!

Hey.. I know this is old but, what was the conclusion of your case? Did you eventually get the visa?
