i864 Federal Tax Return - No Date?

Hi Guys,

I'm just going over my joint sponsor details. They smash the federal poverty limit, we have the 1040, schedules. W-2's, paystubs etc for the most recent tax year. However upon reviewing the 1040, there doesn't appear to be a date on it. It was filled out by a third party tax person. Is this normal?

I'm still trying to get my head around the tax system here.

Best,
Onthepath

The 1040 is here. https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040.pdf

Notice 2015 in big writing top center?

This is a sample Schedule D https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040sd.pdf

Notice 2015 in big writing top right?

That's how you know it is the 2015 tax return. They have new ones every single year.

Nick,

I did notice the large 2015, thanks.

I was referring to the "date" field at the end of the second page being blank in both the returnee and the paid preparer only field. As I'm replying to an RFE I want my response to be bulletproof. Is this standard procedure or could it cause a problem?

Many thanks

Well you could get him to sign it for you and write in the date he filed But his return was filed electronically so he never actually signed or dated a paper tax form. I think it's fine because most e-file these days. Or get him to order a transcript free from the IRS that has no signature and date field.

Nick,

Great, as long as that's a standard thing that's all I'm looking to know. I really appreciate you knowledgeably responding to all of my questions.

This forum is better for it.

Kind regards.

This is where to order tax return transcripts (You don't want tax account transcripts.) https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

He can order online and it creates a document he can download and print or email to you to print if he is not near you. He has to order because it asks personal info you don't have.

Or you could probably fill out the "order by mail" (pretending to be him) and it would be mailed to the address on the tax return and he would have to give you the physical copies. Mine always take about a week to arrive when I have ordered.

Tax transcripts are good because they are stand alone documents. You don't have to worry whether you have all the Schedules or a W2 because you don't send anything but the transcript from the IRS.
