Transfering from Montreal to Vancouver

Well my big wedding is set 6 months and 21 days from now. I'm not really stressed about the timeline too much, and ya I know I really shouldn't plan a wedding before getting the visa, etc, etc...

But I was thinking I could possibly transfer my case to Vancouver once my stuff gets sent to Montreal. Is that a good idea? Are there any valid reasons for being transferred, or do you think I shouldn't try? Just curious if anyone has attempted to do that. I guess I will have to know someone who lives there and just say we will be staying with them?

I'm really not trying to be a dishonest person here, but it is a thought that's crossing my mind...

There's quite a few who have done it recently. You'll need a local address in the Vancouver area (or the Vancouver Consulate area of service...hopefully someone will come along to clarify that), but it seems to be one way to get slotted in.

And by the by, nothing wrong with it...don't feel bad about trying to take control of any part of this visa stuff. More power to you!

Vancouver still assigns interviews much faster, correct? Any downfalls?

No reason to feel guilty, Vancouver is way faster than Montreal. If you can get it transfered to Vancouver you could easily shave off 2-3 months of your wait time. That being said hopefully Vancouver wont slow down anytime soon (Knocks on Wood)

If you can do it, go for it. I think what some are saying to get it transferred is that they will be working for a few months in the Van area,or they are going to visit relatives,lol Got to look out for urself!!

Hey if you can do it...go for it.

My wedding was planned for January of this year....I'm still not married!!! lol.........but we changed everything and now my huge hangup is my Cdn passport.

So if there is a shortcut that you can take without rocking the boat...that would be the answer

One thing though, you need a valid reason and you need Vancouver to accept your transfer to get Montreal moving on transferring it. When I transferred it, the person I spoke to in Vancouver mentioned how people are trying to transfer for a faster interview...

Hi there - I successfully transferred my K-1 from Mtl to Vancouver and my interview is now scheduled for April 10th. I had heard of others on VJ doing so too. After my visa was received at Montreal and after they issued Packet 3, I emailed them to request the transfer. They needed a valid address that fell under Vancouver jurisdiction (I used my mom's address in Lethbridge, Alberta) and a reason for doing so. I told them I travelled frequently between Alberta and Toronto and it made more sense to have the materials mailed there. It was that easy. They mailed the visa to Vancouver and I followed up with them about a week later to make sure they received it and would issue another Packet 3. I received Packet 3 the first week of March, mailed in the checklist asap, and they scheduled my interview for mid April. Note: if you go this way, they will mail all correspondence to the address out West you will have to provide. In all, we decided to eat the cost of the flight and hotel in exchange for waiting 3, 4 or however many months less for the interview. A great trade. :-) Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thank you so much for the feedback. I wasn't aware that they would be sending the correspondence to the provided address. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find someone that me or my fiance knows out west. I'll keep looking!

2-3 months??? Really??? Wow, maybe I should look for a temporary job there.

How long does it typically take from NOA2 to Interview in Montreal these days???? And how long from NOA2 to Interview in Vancouver???

Give or take from NOA2 (does not include time at NVC obviously)

Montreal - 4-6 months

Vancouver - 2 months

I lost about 2 weeks of time transferring my case from Montreal to Vancouver. 1 week of Montreal giving me misinformation and another week of waiting for Montreal to mail my hardcopy of my case to Vancouver.

Because my husband came with me to the interview, we spent probably over $1k in flights and hotel costs to go to Vancouver, but it was well worth the money.

Honestly, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they don't start cracking down on this, I really wouldn't.
