Hi everyone!

I filed n-400 and already received a hard copy of NOA dated August 3 and there is receipt number. First I received an email with the same number and it said that I can check my status online. I try every day and it pops up with

Validation Error(s)
You must correct the following error(s) before proceeding:

My Case Status does not recognize the receipt number entered. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance, please call the National Customer Service Center at.......

Does anyone know what the problem could be? I start thinking that my case status won't be ever available to me?

If this is at USCIS, then yes, it happens every now and then. Some are able to see their status after a few weeks, some manage to get help from Tier 2 to fix it (we did that) and some just never have any luck checking their status.

It's an error in their system some of us are unlucky enough to experience.

Hi Lenchik,

Wait for biometric appointment notice, your case number will be there. It should begin with NBC*.

Good luck to you! (F)

I already sent my fingerprints, so I won't have any other appointment. Maybe in NOA2 then?

Next mail you get from USCIS is the interview appointment notice.

I don't know how it works when you are abroad. Did you get a biometric notice for naturalization process? If yes, did you make a copy by chance?

I didn't get any biometric notice. I went and got my fingerprints taken and then send two cards in the first package with n-400.

So I guess the receipt number in the NOA1 is worthless? Mine starts with IOE.....

You are overseas so it probably is some difference in your case. You made me google that so look what I found out.

Usually, N-400 case numbers begin with NBC* that represents National Benefits Center. Your case number begins with IOE which means ELIS (efile) https://citizenpath.com/uscis-receipt-number-explained/

The USCIS Electronic Immigration System (USCIS ELIS):  Allows applicants and their representatives to submit benefit requests electronically, including supporting evidence and payment  Offers online customer service  Provides up-to-date and detailed case status

On USCIS website I found

Case Was Approved

On April 1, 2015, we approved your Form I-539, Application to Extend or Change Nonimmigrant Status, Receipt Number IOEXXXXXX (I deleted real number). We will mail your approval notice. Please follow the instructions in the notice.

So IOE is not only for USCIS using, it's a real case number that can be checked.

So I advise you to read about USCIS ELIS and create an account. Maybe you will be able to check your case status with that system.

Or better call USCIS and ask representative what the better for you.

Good luck!

OK Thank you! I will check it out.

Yes, USCIS website says that you can create an account:

"3. Create a USCIS online account for N-400 Applications

Beginning April 13, all customers who submit the revised Form N-400, Application for Naturalization (dated March 26, 2016) can create a USCIS online account to track and manage their case online.

If you submit the revised Form N-400, you will receive a USCIS Account Acceptance Notice in the mail with instructions on how to create a USCIS online account. USCIS will continue processing your application even if you choose not to access your online account."

I did submit an updated n-400 form but except e-notification, they never sent me any instruction how to create an account

i actually created an account when was trying to pay for my GC, but then it appeared I didn't need it to pay. Now it shows that the account is empty and there is no cases available. Also, I clicked at Enter Your Online Access Code (See Account Acceptance Notice) inside my account

and it came up with " If you received an online access code in the Welcome to USCIS ELIS letter sent to you, please enter that online access code below to access and review your application." and then "

For security reasons, USCIS ELIS will never send your online access code via email or SMS/text messages.

When you enter a valid online access code, you will access your case on a read-only basis. You will not be able to make changes to your application, petition, or request.

But I have never received any welcome to USCIS ELIS letter yet. Maybe I will, I dk. I shall wait and see.
