Chances are you will get your EAD before you go for an interview as it takes 60 to 90 days on average to be issued. Interviews normally go from 4 to 6 months with some cases longer than that depending on the backlog of the local field office. Also if you're adjusting from K1 chances are you wont even get interviewed with an interview waiver which can take around 9 months for residency to be approved.

I'd like to share my experience, as I feel that it could provide you with some information!

I sent in my package on 3/30/2016. The package was received the next day (3/31/2016), and I received my NOA letters. My biometrics were done on May 9, 2016.

I also received the "Case ready to be scheduled for an interview before hearing anything about the EAD. On June 8th, I received the notice that my interview was scheduled for July 14th. I contacted USCIS on June 15 regarding my EAD, as it was approaching the 90-day regulatory period. They submitted a service request for it. My EAD was approved on June 28th, just two days before the 90-day time period. I got the physical card on July 6th, just a week before my interview date.

In my case, having the EAD card didn't really make too much of a difference since I got the Green Card two weeks later. I do feel, however, that I had a pretty fast application process.

Depending on their geographic location, some people wait more than six months for their interviews to be scheduled, and this is where the EAD card becomes important, since it allows you to work while waiting for your interview!

AOS Package Sent: March 30, 2016

AOS Package Received: March 31, 2016

NOA Received by Mail: April 7, 2016

Biometrics Appointment: May 10, 2016

Biometrics Walk-In: May 9, 2016

Interview Scheduled: July 14, 2016
