Paperwork for interview/medical and beyond

Hello Canadian VJers! :)

I've got some questions I could use some clarifications for; just got my NOA2 for my K-1 and I'm trying to get myself organized for the rest of this process. I've been reading lots of the guides and such but just a few things have come up that I don't know the definite answers to.

1) I plan on making a doctor's appointment on Monday to get bloodwork checks for my immunities done. I've seen some stuff about certain vaccines being "age-appropriate" or not - so what is the short answer for exactly what I need as a 26 year old immigrant? It's quite a long list on the US government website. I got my vaccination records from public health but many of them are over ten years old except my MMR (2008) and my annual flu vaccines which I get for my job (health care).

2) When I see posts referring to the "visa fee," is this what's paid to submit the DS-160, or is this another fee altogether? If I'm correct - from this point I pay for the DS-160, medical fee, and then no more payments until the big AOS application with everything else (for $1070)?

3) For the I-134, how many years of tax transcripts are needed? Sometimes I read just the most recent, sometimes I find 3 years quoted. And - if I get tax transcripts from my sponsor and cosponsor - do I need any of their W2s, tax returns, etc, or is the IRS transcript enough on it's own?

4) Police certificate - should I bother to get a new one? I had a check done in March when I applied for a new job and I read they're good for one year. Is a police check required for AOS after I move and marry (hence I should get one with as fresh a date as possible) or is it just for the interview stage?

5) Montreal's packet 3 says to bring my original birth certificate and a photocopy. I've read somewhere on here though that they need "certified copies," ie new "originals" ordered from my province. Do they keep my original? Should I order more? Or is a normal photocopy what they keep at the interview?

Thank you so much to anyone with some insights to these! :)

1. Most do require TDaP to be done within the last 10 years, so that may be needed.

2. This is not paid with DS-160. Refer to your embassy specific instructions. Some embassies require it paid online, and the proof brought to interview, some require at interview, others require it paid at a bank.

3. I believe only last years is required. However, it is strongly encourage to have 3 years worth. You may not be required to have W2's, but if you can get them...it's always better to be over-prepared than under-prepared.

4. Some police certificates are only good for 6 months, check embassy specific requirements.

5. Yes, you will want to have an original, and a (regular) copy for them. As long as you have the original at your interview, and can hand them a photocopy that should suffice.

I apologize I could not be more embassy specific, just trying to help the best I could! Good luck on your journey!

Thank you for your response; I'm bummed to hear there's another fee somewhere; I can't find this fee in any of the Packet 3 or 4 instructions for Montreal so I don't know when it's paid or how much it is :(

Most of the links on the government sites I'm finding, or here, or in the packet materials seem to be broken. I'm so lost!

Have you checked out this information?

http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Canada&cty=Montreal

We are at the Netherlands embassy, and our fee is $265 (maybe it's the same for all embassies?) I am on my phone at the moment , and not able to easily search more info while on this page. Later today, I will be on the laptop, and try to help find you some more specific information on that fee!

Ds-160 non immigrant visa application fee is $265. Paid online.

You need proof of immunity or vaccination record for Tdap and MMR. Varicella or having gotten chicken pox. Influenza is seasonal.

Canadian Police certificates are valid for 1 year.

They do not keep your originals or certified copies, bring a photocopy for the file. Make sure your birth certificate is long form. Have you been in the Canadian military? That's normally the paperwork that messes people up when they've served.

Bring the most recent tax return transcript and the w2s. They've been asking for those recently.

You're a godsend, NLR! Lol. Thank you, you keep helping in all my threads here and I appreciate it :) That's what I thought people meant by the visa fee is the DS160; so glad that's it!

As for the immunities, that's great. I can probably go to public health and get tdap for free I'd think; and I'll get my doctor to check my immunities for MMR. So the hepatitis A and B, pneumococcal, etc is all irrelevant because I'm not in the age range now?

Oh, and no military service here. And I made sure I ordered a long form birth certificate just after we submitted the I-129F and I learned the short form card isn't enough :)

VividDreamer, if you go to Dr. Cheema's website you will see some guidelines for vaccinations etc., which should be the same regardless of which doctor you go to for your exam.

Omg, thank you for this! I was trying to find the list based on the above poster and couldn't locate it.

I just had my TDap done Wednesday and a pneumococcal vaccine while I was there just because both my doctor and I were looking at the list and scratching our heads, lol.

I just had bloodwork drawn today to check my immune status for Hep A and B, MMR, and Varicella.

What a relief to know Hep A and B don't really matter - can't say I was looking forward to paying out of pocket for Twinrix to cover them both.

Also I've never seen this touched anywhere - does anyone know if being a tobacco smoker is going to affect my medical? Since I haven't seen anyone say they've been denied based on it or anything I assume it's not a big deal, but that question just popped into my head the other day when I was looking at the pneumococcal vaccine recommended groups and it specified smokers.

Thanks so much! I don't know what I'd do without VisaJourney ?
