Remember that it doesn't have to be your local office.

I gave up as I was literally finding nothing available, and yet I found one relatively quickly on the opposite side of the country for a time when I happened to be there anyway.

It is a silly system but no alternative unfortunately

We couldn't get an appointment in NYC just like everyone else so we got an appointment in Hartford CT. When we got there they asked for our CT proof of residency and when we explained we had just driven two hours from NY for the appointment they refused to help us. We were told that so many people had come from NY they decided to stop helping them. This would have been great info to have before my husband took a day off work and I made a four hour round trip!! So, still unable to get an appointment in NYC we made an appointment in Albany, were they were really nice, but another 2+ hour drive to get there. I can not believe how anything can be so inefficient and frustrating!!!! And then when we got to Albany the man said they couldn't help us because my husband's new green card had been mailed. It would be so AWESOME if there was any communication! I am still a bit angry for having driven a total of 8 hours for nothing!
