ESTA Visa Eligibility Questions

My husbands ESTA has expired, last time he applied it seemed a lot less complicated. There is one question that asks if you have "ever had a Visa denied on this or your previous passport"

Does answering YES to this question immediately deny you the visa? Or it takes longer to process? The thing is I don't remember how we answered this on his previous application that was approved/expired. He did had a visa denied on an old passport from a different issuing country.

Then you need to answer yes.

It is not an automatic denial but yes, it likely means you won't get approved almost instantly, like many ESTAs.

Answering YES will deny him an ESTA renewal, and he will be required to apply for a visa where he can provide an explanation at the interview.

Doesn't that question only refer to US visas?

You mention it was another country that denied the visa, not the US...there is your answer: No.

The OP didn't say it was another country that denied the visa, they said that the applicant had been denied while using a passport issued by another country.

No mention if it was for a US visa or not.

I read this:

as to mean that it was denied by a different country issuing a visa.

Unless, of course the OP means the person concerned has a second passport from another country and it was that passport that was denied a US visa.
