I introduced a friend/coworker to my wifes sister

Vietnam, Kevin and Loan....and others here who know who I am....Hello...and hello to those who are new. Good luck to you.

Friends -

About a month ago, a friend and fellow co worker of mine began to inquire about my wifes older sister back in vietnam. He had already heard some about her from previous conversations he and I had about my wife, vietnam, etc etc. He decided he wanted to see if she would be interested in getting to know him better etc via email and so I gave him the nescesary address and phone numbers to call and email and they have been talking pretty much daily for a month now. A few days ago he bought tickets to travel to Vietnam in June to meet her. So far so good. It looks like there might be something going on here and I think there could be a "dinh hon" for them at some time in the future. When my wife and I went through the process, they hadn't passed IMBRA yet....and my wife didn't have a sister who knew who I was beforehand as well.

Do any of you think that this situation will be handled as normal or will there be extra scrutiny because I (and my wife) introduced My coworker to her sister?

*UPDATE* for me and Yen. - I announced on this board way back in early November that we had been approved her her greencard. And that was a true statement. We however didn't know that we were once again the victom of erroneous data entry work at INS. (the first time they had my street number as 91st instead of 41st..took almost a year to get them to fix that one) ....Somewhow, we ended up with TWO separate A numbers. It took from November 4 untill March 16 to get this cleared up. We just got our Welcome Notice in the mail a couple days ago FINALLY. Also, Yen is now 38 weeks pregnant. Doctor appointment today reveals that the baby is in a breach condition. Hopefully the baby will turn on her own...if not...on Monday the Dr will try to or discuss C section I guess...hopefully everything will turn out well. Hope everyone has been well. Yen still doesn't like mexican food :( ...but that is about all I can complain about I guess :). good luck to everyone.

A short timeline:

October 2003, Introduced to YEN by her cousin whom I work with. We like each other etc etc etc..and so on

February 3, 2004, I go to Vietnam to meet her. Things go well so on

February 9, 2004, we get engaged and have the big ceremony and then on

February 14, 2004, I get back on the plane and come home. By about the middle of May I have everything ready to send in to USCIS for the I-29 and on

May 18, 2004 the Nebraska service center recieves the petition. And on

August 28, 2004 I recieve approval notice from NSC. On

October 18, 2004, Yen recieves Packet 3, fills it out, turns it in and on

December 13, 2004 Yen recieves Packet 4, she takes care of it, does the medical etc etc and the interview is scheduled for

January 4, 2005. Yen arrives for her interview and FAILS! So I call and find out what went wrong and they require additional evidence including a 5 minute video of me speaking vietnamese, a tax document that was already in the file, and some letters from me about how and when we met, when and where the engagement was, things we have in common and how our relationship progressed. So on

February 25, 2005 I go back to Vietnam to visit my em oi and on

March 2, 2005 she and I go to the consulate to give them the Video etc. They tell us to expect to wait another 2-6 months. I decide on

March 10, 2005 to give the consulate copies of my airplane tickets, visa and ticket stubs for Yen and I's trip to Phu Quoc. Unexpectedly on

March 23, I get an email from the consulate telling me that our case is APPROVED! So on or about

April 25, 2005 Yen arrives in Kansas City, MO, USA!

Now going through the rest of the process here.

If, at the time of your wife's interview, your friend has filed a petition for her sister, you may have issues. My advice (as a former consular officer), is to (a) tell the whole truth if asked about it; and (B) be prepared to explain the situation in detail. This applies both to you and your wife. If no petition has been filed for your wife's sister at that time, I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah I think that's going to be a sticky situation at interview time. Make sure your evidence is clear. He should probably plan on about 3 visits. I hope for the best on your baby there Gary. Probably a C-Section, right?

Yeah, the Mexican food thing is tough. Just wrap some beans in some rice paper and put some chili sauce on it. You'll be fine.

What's up? It sure has been a while since we last talk and I am glad you guys are well.

Back to your post, I am sure you have been on this board long enough to know this is going to be a sticky situation. I have noticed that at every interviews, the COs alwasy asked if the beneficiaries have any relatives in the US. Yes or No to this question will either make or break the case. Take the advice from Yulek and Vietnam. Be upfront about everything and your friend must plan at least 3 visits and build a strong case in a year or two before he even thinks about filling.

I used to be indecisive. Now I am just not sure ...

I would go into the interview with a positive attitude and only talk the truth and be able to back everything up in writing and also have your Congressman aware of your situation before you even file the petition, or shortly after. I am currently doing this process and I think that if you were introduced by Family members who thought enough of you to introduce you to a member of their family, then that is a very honorable thing. Don't worry about it!!

You enter the consulate via "invitation" or "US Passport".

Who are you? USC or VNC?

If you are USC, you can enter the Consulate by way of USC Service section.

If you are VNC, you enter the HCMC by way of invitation ONLY. By invitation, i mean either a letter from the consulate requests for your presence, or BLUE/GREEN/PINK slips.

To further submit evidence in support your case, you must already have been issued a BLUE or GREEN slips. Just come back with the evidence, show the Blue/Green slip at the door, the armed guards will let you enter HCMC.

I don't know your case, I could be wrong, unless you give us a little more insight about your case.
