Didn't go to Canada, but did travel to Israel and had no problems whatsoever. Never even had to show the NOA letter, neither at check in, nor to the officer at JFK. The expired GC was enough, they checked something in the computer, which I assume let them know that the status was extended.

My husband and I are traveling to California today, I assume since it's domestic we don't need the extension letter. Does he need to carry around his GC, passport, or is the drivers license enough?

To fly domestic a driver's license is enough, but by law you are supposed to carry your GC with you at all times (I'm not saying it's a good idea practically though, due to higher chance of losing it than running into a problem with immigration).

I am also nervous about losing it. We went to Florida last year and they didn't ask for it because I guess they have no way to know that he's a PR and not a USC, but we'll take it just in case. Thanks!

Thanks everyone, I will be traveling by air. Hopefully everything works out well. I book infopass and they said the document I have is sufficient to let me in and out of US and letting me into Canada should not be an issue

I think it does not make sense to start applying for visa
