Hello. My husband has his interview at the consulate soon. We have a one year old together. I am trying to decide if it is worth it to go with my husband and bring our baby or stay home with her. Has anyone had successful trips with young babies? We would be flying into El Paso and taking taxi into Mexico. I'm concerned about her getting sick from food or milk or water. I wouldn't be able to wait 4 hours outside consulate in the heat with a one year old either. Anyone have any tips on bringing young kids and food safety? This would be her first time sleeping away from home without her crib also.

My son was born in Peru (very similar environment to Mexico), we did much international travel to and from Peru within his first year. I would not recommend taking a child of that age if you can avoid it. The flights alone are difficult enough, and all the other factors make it very very difficult. And being this is her first trip, I imagine very little sleep and a difficult time all around.

If you do decide to do it, pack enough food from home to cover the entire trip so she won't have to eat anything foreign to her little stomach. Only use bottled water and formula to prepare milk, get sterlizing bags to microwave bottles in once they have been washed. Be very careful when bathing to make sure baby doesn't drink any of the water. Pack kid safe bug repellent. I used baby carriers a lot, seemed to soothe my baby more then being in a stroller.

Also, I did not attend the interview with my husband, Peru was pretty good about that. Plus I think the explanation of being very limited to travel since we had a baby was one the CO sympathized with.

12/29/2015 Expedite approved, case being sent immediately to Embassy/awaiting interview date

12/31/2015- CEAC shows case as IN TRANSIT

1/11/2016- CEAC shows READY

1/14/2016-Received interview date/packet-case became IR1 (married more then 2 years)

You have doubts already and to me that tells me it's best to skip the trip. I know that this is important for your family to be with your "husband" but your baby's welfare is more important. Good luck with your decision.

I agree with Greenbaum. Baby has to come first.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
