Leaving the country for a wedding

Not sure exactly what I'm looking for, but hoped a few of you could give a little advice. I just had my biometrics appointment at the Jacksonville office on Tuesday, and so expect to receive my EAD in the next few months. My AOS application was submitted at the end of Feb, and I'm currently of the understanding that once my AOS is approved and I have my green card, I can leave and re-enter the country at will.

On the 23 June 2007, two very good friends of mine are getting married in the UK. I'm not sure if we'll be able to afford two flights to the UK, or the time off work (for my wife at least), so I did not sent an advanced parole request form at the same time as my AOS (given the additional cost). If I were to apply now, it looks like I might just about recieve the early parole in time for the wedding, but that my green card probably won't arrive for approx another 4-5 months.

Does all this sound about right? I'd love to be able to go to the wedding, but it just doesn't quite seem feasable.

hmmm.....personally speaking, I think you should file for the AP as soon as you can. We got married in April 2004, sent out the AOS immediately, didn't get a GC until May of the following year. We filed the AP with the AOS (in April) and got the AP in August..2 days before we left for Italy. I just think you are better off...although, things may have changed in the last year and a half. Good luck.

To begin with, its very hard to even suggest a timeline for when you might receive AOS or AP. I have a friend who filed for her AOS in October 2006 and received her AP beginning of February 2007, still no green card. I myself applied for AOS on 31 December 2006 and received my green card middle of February 2007. In my humble opinion, if your case is straightforward, I think the timeline should be fine to get the AP as long as you file asap.

Thanks guys! Appreciate your responses. Think I need to look carefully at whether we could find and justify $2k for the flightsor not, and then apply for AP asap if we can.

Chris.

'nother quick question...

Does the Advanced parole document automatically allow multiple re-enties?

I've just this morning been asked to be a god parent! :) Just when I thought things were complicated enough! ;)

If I were to receive the authorisation in time for the wedding, would I have to apply again to leave and re-enter in July/August?

Not exactly.

The AP is good for one year allowing you to travel as needed.
