Do you carry NOA and expired CG with you everywhere?

Good morning,

Did you carry your GC with you anywhere you go? I never carried my GC with me but only my DL as identification. I had only shown my GC to employer and admissions departmet at school because they requested it.

Prior applying to AOS I had a valid DL which was due to expire within months of getting my GC. Once I received my work permit, I proceeded to renew my DL with expiration date same as work permit expiration.

When I received my GC, once again I went to renew my DL and somehow I they gave me a DL with expiration date of 2021 instead of date on 2yr GC expiration -which is next week.

Since my DL won't expire anytime soon, do I need to carry my expired GC and recently received NOA to prove my legal status?

My wife didn't carry her GC with her until we read this thread. It's the law.

Law says carry it at all times, period.

There was a discussion on this not too long ago. Moderators decided to close that thread permanently as it could suggest or advocate multiple ways of law-breaking. Basically it is a "don't ask, don't tell" issue around here.

Yes it is so weird. When you get the card you get a little slip saying to store your Green Card in it in a safe place. For me a safe place would be where I keep my passport, hidden. Not in my wallet where I can lose it. But apparently it's the law. So why if we're supposed to carry it with us, are they giving us a slip to put it in and urge us to keep it safe? For me a wallet is not safe.

My question was an honest question. I don't understand why some vj members feel the need to be so harsh when they reply. I bet some would be deligted to be IO to flat out deny any benefit to applicants for not breathing at certain rhythm. At the end it is everyone's decision on what to do on this matter, and I wish I hadn't ask this question after reading some responses.

Posting a honest question here sure is like adventuring into a eggshell road. I don't see why some members respond in a way that new members rather stay away and hopefully find help somewhere else. I am not going anywhere because I had great deal of help here from other members who at least respond with minumum respect about some knowing more than others and simply answer without any harshness.

I have been asked questions via PM and I don't mind to answer the best I can. Now I see why some rather stay away from some threads and hope for the best when asking someone in a private mode.

Where is a pinned thread about this topic since it is a matter of controversy and things can get clarify by the expert vj members and others like me read there first before asking again?

I am not going to tell you about me not carrying the GC, because it's illegal not to carry it.

However, I am going to tell you about situations where I carry the GC, which is perfectly legal: I carry my Green Card when visiting the local USCIS office. I also carried it recently when I visited the HR department at my work to provide a copy of it. I also carried it when I went to renew my driver's license because the GC is required as proof of residency.
