National Insurance Number

I just want to ask what is this National Insurance Number (NIN), is this mandatory to have this before entering to the USA?

I apply online in one of the US company and they process all my documents (Visa, etc. without even interviewed by the embassy) and deliver it through courier since my home address is outside USA.
Moreover, during the delivery of this documents embassy informed me that they will hold my visa as I should have to pay the NIN. Is this valid, legitimate, scam or whatsover? Is this practiceable already?

Please I am looking forward to hearing from you the soonest.

Thank you.

******* Moving from Introductions to Work Visa forum ******

National Insurance Number sounds like a thing from the UK, not the USA.

What kind of visa are they claiming they are getting for you, and what sort of work will you be doing?

Definitely sounds like a scam. Visas are not private, and there is nothing you could do "wrong" by seeing it. No interview by the embassy is also extremely unusual, unless it is a renewal of a visa.

Do these people have your passport?

Oh my god!

yes I did. I send my passport, pictures, employment forms, visa application form ,etc. to that company.

They already get $1,170 (not including other expenses) from me and now they're asking again of $3,500 for that NIN. That is the only time I become suspicious. Too late for me.

Thank you for giving me information.
