Moving to Canada down the road...

I was wondering if anyone here, if they didn't stop visiting here after they got their visa, has then moved to Canada. At this time it made more sense for my fiancee to come to the US, but it would actually be more convenient down the line for us to move to Canada. I would actually be closer to my work in the US if we did so.

If we did, it would probably be in about two years or so, and it's just conjecture if I don't end up finding a job closer to home that pays as well as my current job. I commute about 120 miles each day, and that's time I'd much rather spend with my future wife and step-daughter.

Anyone have any insight on this?

I know that married_my_love did this. But, just for the mean time. Now she is back in the USA. I'm sure she will be posting on here soon. Other might be able to direct you to a Canadian immigration forum, I know someone had posted it a while back. Good to keep your options open!

Joel and I are planning to move to Nova Scotia in the future, once he obtains citizenship so he can be a dual. I plan on becoming a dual as well.

You can download all applications from there or they will mail them to you. It is a little easier to understand than US Immigration. It is more expensive takes less time but they do have an In-Canada process so at least you can be with your spouse. I immigrated and became a PR of Canada in 2004. Wherebouts in NS do ya plan to reside? Joel is from the Pubnicos, just out from Yarmouth. We're thinking of the Tusket area, or maybe Shelbourne (sp).

I lived in Greenwood NS for a few yrs, people were great, but no thanks, lol I'm a priarie boy. Hopefully retire back in Sask on a small farm, but thats years and years away.

We haven't made a firm decision on the particulars as of yet. Ive never been to NS but for some reason Ive always been drawn to the Atlantic coast and we figured it was a good compromise. My husband was born in Halifax and his early military years were spent in Barrington. His mother was born and raised in Shelburne and area..........so it's going to be like going home for him.

we're considering the same -- either in the Bridgewater/Mahone Bay area or Cape Breton ... it all depends on how well we do in eliminating our debt as quickly as possible.

Not sure if I understood you correctly: but if you are a USC planning on living in Canada but working in US, be careful to make sure you spend enof time residing in Canada to maintain your Canadian residence permit. (If you have dual citizenship though, it won't be an issue.)

My husband is a USC and I'm Cnd. We have lived in Canada for the past 7 years but he works in the US. He never had any trouble crossing the border until last month when the border agent asked how much time he had spent in Canada and wanted him to recite all the dates he had been in both Canada and the US and to show him some 'proof'. He eventually let my husband in, but needless to say, it was an upsetting experience.
