We're waiting to receive my husband's passport with his visa any day now and both of us are wondering if he needs permission from the military to leave Egypt. He turned 30 end of July. Does anyone know if he still needs permission or not, given that he's 30 now?

Did he have his military certificate that says he completed/exempted from his military service? If he does have his certificate then I don't see why the military would need to be notified or need permission. I don't think his age will have anything to do with it. I've never read anything or heard anything like that needing to be done. As long as he has his certificate that states he finished his service or was exempted then he's fine.

Do let me know if you hear anything else otherwise, my hubby is 37.

I've heard from him and others before that even if you complete your time in the military, you can be called back up until the age of 30. If that's 100% true or not, I'm not sure, which is why I'm asking. His certificate, to my knowledge, says nothing about being exempt. It states he completed his army service and he was of good moral character, I believe.

I just looked at the translation. It has a line that reads, "to be allied within the provisions of the service members civil relief which will be ended on 01/12/2019. That sounds to me like he's not free of the military until that date. It happens to be exactly 9 years from the date he completed his service.

I guess I'll just have him go anyway to be safe. Just hate to waste time and more money if it isn't needed.

At 30, one is considered "unfit" for the military. However, his date freeing him from military obligation would be when he is 32... I don't get it to.

I just spoke to my husband. Please excuse me for my answer previously. My husband said that he (your husband) will have to get permission from the military because he did serve and he was not exempt. My husband was exempted so I misunderstood.

Yeah I don't either. But since his date has not expired then it looks like he needs to get permission.

We're actually together now! I've been living with him a little over a year and a half here in Egypt. Eager to return to the states as I'm not fond of Egypt to be honest. Can't wait to see my family and for them to meet my husband. Very excited. Anxiously awaiting his passport! ?

Oh my bad, I was thinking that you were Stateside. :P

Yeah I understand, I'm not all that fond of Egypt either, I kind of have a love/hate relationship when it comes to Egypt. I never expected to live here as long as I have, but what can you do, things happen. I have two sons from my previous marriage in the US. So it's been really difficult all these years, only communicating through Skype. I finally made a visit this past April, which was awesome, but only made me more homesick and eager to get my husband and daughter in the US. My sons write me everyday asking if I've been approved yet. I try to explain to them that it may be months until I'm back in the US. Let's pray and hope that you and your husband get stateside soon and my family as well. :)

I'm so so happy for you two!

@Ahmed & Amy: Oh, I hear you. I definitely wasn't expecting to be here this long either! I cannot imagine being away from my children that long, which is why we've taken measures to prevent pregnancy until we're stateside. Where in the process are you? Praying you can go home soon to your boys with your husband and daughter! ?

@Tam&Luke: That's very kind of you. Thank you, but we'd rather not join any groups on Facebook. If you'd like to share information, that'd be much appreciated by myself, and I'm sure others who feel the same as we do with regards to Facebook. ?

Yes, he will have to have permission from the Military to leave Egypt, its called an Exit stamp.

Even if he has fulfilled his military obligation, then they are in the reserves for 10 years after that.

Best wishes

lukamari,

Right now I'm only at the USCIS stage awaiting approval. It's only been 4 months since I received my NOA1, so I am assuming I have about another month till approval (fingers crossed). So far no transfers or RFE's.

Thanks dear, I can't wait to reunite with my family and for them to finally meet my husband in person. When I went back to visit, my daughter came with me, so she got to meet everyone.

I am truly happy for you and it is only a matter of days God Willing that you too will be reunited with you family and have them finally meet your husband. Can't tell you how excited I am for you, because I feel exactly the same for myself. :P
