Hello all,

Am in a slight panic and could do with some advice.

My fiancé was laid off in February, just before we submitted our I-129f, but had a little freelance work going on.

We submitted our I-129f in March and was approved at the end of June.

We figured he'd have found work by the time I got around to my interview, but unfortunately he has had bad luck as hasn't been able to land a job despite multiple interviews.

He has been receiving unemployment but that will soon run out.

He owns a car, and has some savings but does not own any real estate. We have no one who can realistically co-sponsor this as neither of our families could support us financially.

My medical is booked for next week and am anxious about how long I can hold off booking the visa interview whilst he waits to find work and be able to send me the I-134 and associated support.

I could really do with some advice. Are we likely to get rejected if he is unemployed? How long can we realistically hold off until he can send me a the I-134 form with employment? Do we have any alternatives? If the embassy receive my medical results before I schedule an interview is this going to cause any issues?

Sorry if I am rambling, I have no real support with this process and would be extremely grateful for your help.

I am based in the UK, so will be interview at the London Embassy.

London accepts self sponsoring. Are you able to cover the poverty guidelines? Other than that, if the petitioner doesn't meet the poverty guideline a sponsor is needed.

I wouldn't do the medical before this is sorted out, as the validity of the visa will reflect the date of the medical.

I know that consulate in Frankfurt allows K1 applicants to sponsor themselves. Their instruction says
"submit evidence that you will not become a public charge" Find out if it is the same in London Embassy. That could be a good option for you.

So, our household would be 2 people, therefore the poverty guideline would be $20,025.

If I were to self-sponsor, would I need to show that I can meet this amount via assets, savings etc?

Yes, maybe also property whatever you can show
