We do all our groceryshopping at the comissary - but are forced to shop at walmart if we need anything on the weekdays because I am not home from work in time to go to the comissary - they close at 6pm. I HATE walmart. Their veggies have no flavour, and everytime I go there I end up in a bad mood. And ther really doesn't seem to be any small, independent grocers in my bumblef*ck town. I would love to have a farmer's market or fruit market, or even a butcher. Sigh... no, only walmart. Blech - we have promised never again to shop there after we move back to Boston!

I really miss the intimacy of smaller grocery stores. Ya know, the kind where you know everyone who works there and get a genuine smile/nod/ Hello.

What is it about Walmart (and Target and any other big store) that just makes me feel depressed when I walk out?

I dunno- but I get that too. I really like the baggers at the commissary - they always bring your bags to your car, and they actually bag stuff really well - nothing get squished and no bleach in with my peppers :) It's all old fashioned-like!

that is one thing I have to complain about .... some people don't know how to pack groceries but that happened back in Canada too... they throw anything in one bag.... like the other day they threw my carton of eggs in with other harder stuff.... I freaked thinking they had cracked my eggs but they were ok  or they pack one little item in a bag by itself

I am a bit ####### at the grocery store  when placing items in the cart I make sure that nothing gets squished but hubby just throws stuff in the cart :P ... and then when placing the groceries on the thingie at the checkout, I make sure and place all the cans and heavy items first and the vegies and fruit last  ....

Have to admit, I more of a Wally World girl. Although I do like Target because they have the pick n' mix Jelly Bellies :D

Besides, what would us Southerners do without Walmart? Where else would we go at 3am that has an entire row of talking dollys you can tell all our woes to, whilst riding a pink barbie bike with training wheels, and carrying an armload of celery on our way to pick up a package of light bulbs?

I do prefer the Moroccan equivalent, Marjane. I was so at home there :D

I shop at both. I like Target's end of aisle Clearances. I have gotten some really good deals there. I like WalMart for their prices but as with most WalMart's unless you go in the middle of the night its very crowded.

Love Love Love the Method cleaning supplies at Target. I also like the plain contemporary packaging on a lot of their items. We don't like flowers and dancing children on our kleenex boxes :hehe:

We have been caught buying groceries at Walmart as much as we dislike the crowds and chaos there. They just built a neighbourhood market not far from our place which is much nicer than the big ole super centres which pretty much suck the life outta me as soon as I set foot in the door.

What is it about Walmart (and Target and any other big store) that just makes me feel depressed when I walk out?

Not me, because I'm thinking of all the money I just saved. I want to know and be comfortable with my doctor or dentist, but I couldn't careless who sells me toilet bowl cleaner.
