Large age difference between petitioner and beneficiary

Hello All,

First, I just want to thank all of you for your questions and contributions, and support in general. I love coming on here and knowing that we're all going through shared journeys...for love!

I am really concerned, and it may not be a big deal...but just not sure. I'm 11 years older than my fiance, and I am the petitioner. According the VJ, our file will be adjudicated in the next few weeks. But, I'm worried that I may receive an RFE because they might see the age difference (especially because I'm a much older, female petitioner) as a big red flag.

Is anyone in a similar situation and if so, how has the process been for you? Any challenges due to the age difference?

Thank you so much!

Jackie

Hi and welcome!

USCIS doesn't care about age difference - they only care about your package being complete and formalities being correct.

The embassy might care, but it depends greatly on the country your fiancé is from, your actual ages and time spent together in person.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

Shouldn't be a problem. The UK, right? 11 year age difference isn't that big of a deal.

I have seen some huge age gaps. I'm talking decades. They seemed to have been approved.

However, it is country specific. Certain countries it would raise a red flag if it is highly unusual.

11 years is not an issue at all. That's not a huge age difference.

Well first off hes from the UK so its not a cultural problem there.

Age is not an issue im 8 more then mine i havent interviewed yet mine is in 10 days hopefully its not an issue.

I also see many on here with larger differences in age then that.

If you have proof of a bonefied relationship i wouldnt stress over that :D

Thank you so much everyone! Very very good advice!!!! Anitafeliz...he has lived in the UK for a long time but he's actually Pakistani, so...there's that. But, we're still at the first phase, waiting for our NOA2. I guess we will cross the embassy bridge when it comes. Great to know that it depends on country, and that it's not something to get a RFE for...

Thank you again!

Merrytooth...exactly!!! Another thing to stress over...cultural difference right there..

Merrytooth,

I actually met him through his sister, who lived here in Chicago at the time. She's in Canada now. So, I know her...I didn't send a picture of her and I because he wasn't in the picture...since he's in the UK. But I did send a copy of a Whatsapp chat of a discussion she and I had about getting to know him. And, when I went to London, we took pictures of him and his close family friends...but no...I haven't met any of his other family members since they're not in the UK.

AnitaFeliz, I'm praying he can!!

I sent in pictures of me with his family and my now husband was not in some of them. Shows that you have a good relationship with his family. It won't effect anything now but if someone else is reading this who haven't sent the petition in and think the same as you... Send it in, doesn't hurt. You're not just marrying your future spouse, you're kind of marrying the whole family and it's definitely a plus if you can show them you have a good relationship with your future spouse family.

If you use the search tool and type in "age difference" you will see multiple threads on this in the recent past.

As it's been stated many many times....it depends on the consulate and country customs and norms. Is the female within child bearing age? Have they proved bonafide relationship in other aspects?

My fiance is 31 years older than me and we I got recently approved without any issues.

You won't have any problem with your "large" 11 years. Some embassies may nitpick on it, I definitely recommend for you to be interviewed in London as mentioned by other people above.

Ask him to bring to the interview as much as evidence to prove your real relationship. Specifically the hand_written Letters and cards from you, your relatives. Western Union money transfer slips, pictures taken while Skype
