Hello guys!

I was hoping I could get some advise for a couple of questions that I have about the packet 3 checklist for K-1 Fiance(e) visa applicants.

Any insight is much appreciated! I am super super nervous about this whole process and want everything to go as smoothly as possible.

This is what it says on the checklist:

"First, you have to acquire all the necessary documents and prepare for your interview. As you acquire the documents applicable to your case, please checkmark them on the list below. Second, once you have acquired all the documents, please sign, date, and return this checklist to the U.S. Consulate General in Montreal to notify us that you are ready for the next step."

So it's saying that we need to check off everything on this list as we obtain the documents and then send it in signed along with the DS-160 form etc but I am not sure about a couple of these things I may need.

Marriage Certificate - It's to my understanding that we need a marriage license to get married and then the marriage certificate is proof that we would be legally married. I know this is silly to bring up because it seems obvious but I guess I am unsure about things that wouldn't apply to me. Do I just put N/A ? same with Adoptions Decree and Military records on the list. Is it okay to put N/A on the line? Or should I put a brief explanation?

Court Records - It's asking for court records. I have been to traffic court late last year as a witness to an accident.. do I need to bring something to show this? I do not have a criminal record and I also do not have any of the documentation from the court date I had, I lost the subpoena.

Thank you again to anyone that takes the time to offer some advise on this. I feel like I don't know who to reach out to with my questions.

I hope that if I send in my DS-160 form and maybe misunderstood a question they would allow me to clarify because there were a couple of questions on there that I was not sure about as well. I had a post in late July about it so if you feel like having a gander and helping out, that would be awesome.

Just leave the check box blank for the documents that don't apply to you. Very common situation, nothing to worry about.

Court records for a case where you were only a witness are NOT interesting/needed for the adjudication of your visa.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

Hi JamieandCharlie,

I have a quick question because we're also trying to submit Packet 3 to the Consulate in Montreal. Did you or your Canadian fiancé receive Packet 3 in the mail?

As of Friday, NVC states that the Consulate in Montreal received our application, and I found Packet 3 instructions online, so we completed DS-160 online, but I'm not sure if we should get started on the packet 3 checklist or wait until we receive it in the mail.

You can probably leave anything blank on Packet 3 that doesn't apply to you.

Thanks!

I received package 3 in the mail, yes. My fiance received a letter in the mail saying that they received our petition from USCIS (Note: NOT the letter saying our petition was approved) and then about a week later I got the package in the mail.

It wouldn't hurt to get started on getting that required information. Just make sure that there's no expiration date on anything you might need.

Like for example I double checked how long the police certificate was valid for and it said a year so I knew not to worry about that~.

Another thing to be mindful of is your passport style photos that you need to get again. I remember I read somewhere one time that they were only valid for 30 days or so but then the place I went to said they were valid for 6 months so just make sure or else you'll have to pay another $20 or so to get them again.

Hope this helps.

You don't have to wait for them to mail Packet 3 to you, you can just use the generic and submit online once you are certain that your file has reached the Montreal consulate.

I checked off all the points on my pkt 3 checklist before I sent it even though they don't all apply to me just to be thorough - I'm sure that can't possibly be an issue for them?
