Host was worthy of all the praise it's getting. That + Oldboy makes me want to check out more Korean films.

Coincidentally enough I bought Oldboy today - the 3-DVD set seems to be going OOP (the set is already being sold for over $50 on Amazon) - luckily Borders had one still in stock. Very good, but very disturbing movie.

wow, i got to google it now..

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I don't think I could buy Oldboy because I couldn't stand to see it more than once a year. Too difficult. Rey probably could though... he wants to rent it like every time we're at the video store.. hmmmm

I loved the way it was deliberately ambiguous at the end - whether the main character had forgotten what he had done and was oblivious to the truth, or whether he remembered and was doing it anyway. The guy playing Oh Dae Sue was very good.

That corridor fight scene was great.

Here's an interesting new film about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, produced by a joint effort of Palestinian, Israeli and North American film crews. It will be shown in several large U.S. cities, as well as around the world.

You can watch the trailer and get screening dates here:

I have yet to see an American version of a movie that holds up to the original - Magnificent Seven was good but not as good as The Seven Samurai.

Of course, Steven.

Americans could never build a good vehicle:

Did you compare it's performance to Toyota or Honda? Those two companies consistly make reliable cars in the compact range that I don't see how anyone would buy anything less.

...

That's because it's Japanese engineering...

and Americans know nothing about making good movies.

The Japs are far superior to us in every way.

I'm excited for "The Namesake." I'm gonna see it today. And "Maxed Out." Luckily I live in walking distance from two art theaters. Keeps me seeing the good stuff.

I'll definitely try to go see "The Namesake" as I read the book . . . also, I saw "Monsoon Wedding" (i think I have it around here somewhere . . time for another watch), "Mississippi Masala" and "Salaam Bombay" . . . OK, I like movies about India/Indians?? Go figure!! Hehe, also say "Kama Sutra" (tragic love story, NOT a movie about the book by the same name). I haven't seen the "White Castle" movie which the star of "The Namesake" also was one of the stars.

I am a fan of independent and foreign films too . . . but I haven't seen as many as I would like to lately, darn!! But I love to read ppl's recommendations!

In fairness, the Japanese are really bad at copying American culture.

On the contrary -- the Japanese are great at copying things. They don't have too many

original ideas of their own but they are very good at refining existing ideas to perfection.
