If prefer you not try to immigrate to Canada. Why not stay where you are? You seem happy in Japan?

Did you mean I (not if?)

I am happy in Japan.

I think North America may be better for my American kids.

Japanese companies and you must know there are many operating in Canada, would prefer that people like me do immigrate.

There are no objectives (goals) of the Embassy? I should hope there are.*

What did I say negative about your country?

*Generally they are as I wrote:

1. To assist citizens and companies of the USA in the host country

2. To advance the interests of the United States

Making me go through the immigration process all over again and separating my American kids from one of their parents for a year or so, doesn't seem to be consistent with the objectives.

If you really don't think the Embassy has an objective or objectives - what do you think it exists for? In Japan it is one of the largest buildings and the most protected / guarded in the nation.

What are American taxpayers paying for if there is no objective?

NO ONE is making you....this was your doing all you. If you followed the thread EM VANDAVEER gave you and option which would avoid being separated.

US Spouse working abroad since 2014

Pregnant, couldn't apply for another Travel Permit

Consular officer real jerk, didn't look at my evidence, made me cry, refused to talk with my husband (original petitioner.)

Qualifying for Returning Resident Status

Under provisions of immigration law, to qualify for returning resident status, you will need to prove to the Consular Officer that you:

  • Had the status of a lawful permanent resident at the time of departure from the U.S.;
  • Departed from the U.S. with the intention of returning and have not abandoned this intention; and
  • Are returning to the U.S. from a temporary visit abroad and, if the stay abroad was protracted, this was caused by reasons beyond your control and for which you were not responsible.

ALL OF THESE ARE TRUE FOR APPLICANT

There are no objectives (goals) of the Embassy? I should hope there are.*

the purpose of my reply was not to engage in a discussion with you about the official role of the US embassy. I was addressing the fact that this is about your personal agenda not being met - not a national objective by the embassy.

Not for Hillary Clinton!

A large donation to her campaign and your problems are likely to be over.

A Banker should know that.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

The national and personal objectives of individual citizens such as my husband are linked.

A Banker should know that.

As a non-citizen, I don't think that I am allowed to do that.

Of course I have no interest in doing so, even if I could.

Yes, to make a rational / logical decision; we consider all relevant policy.

The reason I started this tread was that I failed to see the logic behind the 1 year rule.

No one has demonstrated any benefit to me that the US receives from this arbitrary time limit,

Rather many parents and children with one party being eligible and the other not have had their lives turned inside out.

If they didn't set up this limit many people would abuse the residence permit. They could live abroad, keep their money in American banks, travel freely, would possibly have income in other countries and hide it or not report taxes to the US. So practically they would use privileges of a green card holder but would avoid responsibilities that come with it.

You can have a work visa sure. Maybe the Canadian attitude will rub off on you. Im pretty sure we're up to our quota of self entitled peeps tho. Just sayin.

Not sure why you feel your children would be better in the USA which has a worse education system until they reach university?

And if there are spelling mistakes, well I'm on my phone and dont care to correct everything. It's not that important.

 Canada's self entitled don't want anyone more entitled then them. They are afraid this would spike gun crime and make Canada more violent then a project in Brooklyn, or COMPTON.

/thread over. That's basically the logic behind it. Yes, there are no likely countless other US policies that the OP can point out that contradict this logic and do the opposite, but that's true with many public policies and laws unfortunately.
