:crying: I just found my daughter's hamster dead in his cage a mere 10 minutes before I have to go get Alli at the schoolbus. She's going to be so upset...had him for over 2 and a half years. :( I knew it was going to happen soon because hamsters don't really have a long life but this pet was what helped her make the move to the US, ya know? It was Rick's gift to her her first birthday here in the US. Gulp.

Aww Sharon I am sorry for her loss. But try and comfort her and make plans to go and find a new one maybe the weekend or later? I know she will be heartbroken but the thought of getting a new one might help.

Thanks Amanda.

Do y'all think I should let her see him to say goodbye or just "take care of it" myself...she's only 10 years old...

Comfort food might help....a chcolate bar or something? I don't want her to equate comfort with food tho if you know what I mean....

Ah, thats so sad. I always had hamsters as a kid. Two and a half is a good age for a hamster cause the average age is about two. Are you gonna bury it and put a little headstone on the grave? Thats what I did with mine, made me feel a little better.

Definately let her say her own 'goodbye', without a doubt.

Our Second Anniversary

I want to succeed in America where, unlike Britain, they do not regard ambition as being the same as eating babies.

The National Rifle Association says that, "Guns don't kill people, people do," but I think the gun helps, you know? I just think just standing there going, "Bang!" That's not going to kill too many people, is it? You'd have to have a really dodgy heart to have that happen.

There's a huge hole in the whole Flood drama, because anything that could float or swim got away scot-free, and it was the idea to wipe out everything, He didn't say, "I will kill everything, except the floating ones and the swimming ones, who will get out due to a loophole."

Sorry about the hamster Sharon. :(

I would let her see it too if she wanted too. My sons had them as pets too. Yours did good to live that long.

Definately let her say good-bye...and if you're unsure about the whole comfort food thingy, maybe an extra hour hour or something before she has to go to bed? Or no chores, or some small gesture that says "You need some TLC right now" (F)

Well, she's not too bad. (Thank you, God!) She cried of course but I think my warning her the past several months that he wasn't going to last much longer kinda prepared her for it cuz she even said "Well, we knew he was going to die soon and he was old..." She didn't want to see him and it's just as well because when he died, he bared his teeth and they were showing. I think that would have freaked her out some. We are not going to bury him because we live in the mountains and possums or coons would only dig him up and Alli knows that. So believe it or not she said to just throw him in the garbage bin outside IN his cage (said she doesn't want another one!) so he will be in his comfy house and everything that he loved. And when we go to the trash depot on Saturday we will dispose of him. I know it sounds cold but it's reality, unfortunately.

I'm proud of her for dealing with this so well...I was really dreading this. It hurts so bad to see your child hurting, ya know?

Thanks again, everyone. :luv:

Awwwwww...... that's sad but I'm glad she wasn't so hurt!

I had my last hamster about 3 years ago when Dave came to Brazil. Her name was Amy and when I moved out from my parents house to live with him she died. Maybe she missed me  My mom put her in a red heart shaped box and did bury it in a park close to my house.

I have a dog too, she's 8 years old..... her name is Naná and I just love her sooooo much! I'm sure it's going to hurt a lot more when she dies! :crying:
