How does customs work when my fiance arrives? He's bringing a ton of stuff with him, including his stereo system. (And yes, he got on the plane with the computer parts in his carry on just fine - thanks for the advice on that.) Does he have to pay customs fees only on brand new stuff? Or might he get stuck with customs fees on his old used stuff? I'm gonna have money on me just in case but am wondering what to expect. Ok, ok, and it's 6am and I'm wide awake. :P

I never crossed the border as immigrant, but as a non-immigrant I crossed many times and never paid anything for my used stuff. It should not matter whether you are an immigrant or not. No taxes, unless you are bringing in goods for sale, as far as my knowledge goes.

Thank you guys. :) Yup, he got through customs with no problems and no fees... though his list of things to declare was so long he had to fill out two forms! :lol:
