My family came to the US as immigrants in 1919, I am pretty sure I had no slave holding relatives, am I merely supposed to pay reparations because of my skin color? That concept itself is racist.

I grew up in public housing, was forced bussed to satisfy a requirement in Boston city schools to serve racial quotas. I have a black son n law and a mixed race daughter in law, I am marrying an Asian, I am pretty sure my diversity is good enough without giving handouts because of any notion by others that I should have guilt for being a member of a particular race.

I make up to those I personally wrong, I am not driven by collective guilt.

Couple of points:

1. If any reparations were to come about, I'm positive you wouldn't be paying out of your pocket. I don't understand why people think when this topic comes about, we're saying you have to pay us personally. The government would handle it, just like they did with the Japanese and the Native Americans. They were given something, don't know why this is always a sore subject.

2. Why does every white person feel the need to say their ancestors didn't own slaves? I say that because EVERY white person in America says this. According to the video posted here in VJ, no white people owned slaves, but every black person did. I really need to bone up on my history.

3. It's always interesting to see those who hate talking about race are, you know what never mind.

4. If you really don't know what white privilege is, it's been talked about extensively here, but I'm always here to provide a refresher course. But if you're just here like some of the other posters to talk about what black people don't deserve let me know.

A refresher course is always appreciated.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Based on the article posted for comment it had nothing to do with government payments, it specifically mentioned individuals providing the compensation.

I can't speak for every white person, perhaps my ancestors had slaves when they arrived even though it was 56 years after the emancipation.

I did not belittle you, I spoke respectfully and with candor, thanks for the never mind on your third point, I guess I don't have the mental capacity to understand you. I told you where you could get the training you said you wanted

I understand what you call white privedge, I have not seen the panacea of that. Don't assume people are not your intellectual equals, you may be sadly proved wrong.

No need to respond to this, we are diametrically opposite on this point and we are not going to come to a happy understanding.

My comment was not directed at you.

Also my comment wasn't disrespectful, but I find it odd this conversation brings forth the comment of a person giving money to black people personally. If a person doesn't want to give anything they shouldn't feel obligated to do so.

How was it not directed at me? You quoted me!!!

Read the article the premise as to match individuals to provide benefit in order to assuage guilt

Because the first two questions were directed at you. The third one wasn't, hence the never mind.

And unless the article calls you out by name, I'm not really sure why you're getting testy. If you don't want to contribute, don't. The sun will rise tomorrow. Why do you feel guilty?

I pointed out a common trend that is a reoccurring theme. Also your definition of white privilege isn't accurate, but I'm pretty sure you're not going to budge on the subject.

The government would handle it, just like they did with the Japanese and the Native Americans. They were given something, don't know why this is always a sore subject.

Japanese reparations were paid to only surviving internees. Estates / Decendents didn't receive money.

In the case of Native Americans, the reparations were not for treatment or loss but for legally held lands that the US took.

Based upon these, the last opportunity for reparations died with the last living slave. That being said, I could see reparations being granted to survivors of Jim Crow laws etc.

What was my definition of white privileges?

I just read the 2nd page of this thread. Your tip about the Khan school is a good start. Also Unsmiley's comment, good content.

From what I gather, you said you didn't know if you were a benefit. That makes me think your definition of WP is getting things handed to you. Am I right? If not, let me know.

i have no definition of white privileges, I have never been given anything, I am the product of unsuccessful social programs geared at leveling out past injustices,

Bussing

Racial quotas in college admission

Public service job terminations to balance the cultural biases of the past in city jobs

Have I received some benefit based on race, perhaps who are you to decide the balance on my behalf

I love it reparations would not be paid out of your pocket, the government would handle it.
