Hi everybody

I have my visa interview 11 August , this is my first time visiting the US . i have been planing and saving for this trip for 3 years. I am going to visit a friend I met in 2009. I am a 41 year old South African female, been in my job for 15 years , I dont have kids and i am not married, I do own the house I live in and my Mom is a dependent of mine. I read on one of these forums someone had stated not being married and having no previous travel history is a guarantee denial for visa. I just would like to know what the most important thing the CO is looking for ? It seems a little harsh to deny someone a visa for the sole reason they have never traveled before, you have to start somewhere right? I will be visiting places I have always wanted to visit. Please can someone advise?

thanks

A letter from your employer, the deed to your house, any documents showing your mother is dependent on you. Not just financially, even better if she needs your presence for help.

What's the nature of your relationship with this "friend" - yes, that will be scrutinized. Have you met him in person previously? Are you staying at his property? For the entire stay? How long are you staying? Shorter is better.

Yes, it might be hard for you to get a visa, but nobody knows until you try.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

what documents can show she is a dependent? how do you even get a document to show she is a dependent? my friend is exactly that a friend who is also female and an American citizen , yes we have met in person back in 2009 while she was on her honeymoon, I will be there only 18 days as i have work commitments

I don't know. I'm just grasping at straws on your behalf really. Does she have some physical condition that requires help with every day chores? Then a doctor's note.

Your friend being female and married is a good thing. Don't forget to mention that. If you just say friend, the CO will hear "male that will marry me for green card". That's the harsh reality.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

thank you very much I really appreciate the input. I did fill in her name as the contact person in the US on my application form as I will be staying with her for the 18 days. I guess all i can do is go and hope for the best. Thank you again
