So my wife just got her US citizenship by naturalization and she wants to sponsor her parents and siblings. I know exactly zero about how this all works.

1. Should she just try to sponsor her parents or parents and siblings?

  • I heard that it is very unlikely that her siblings will be approved and that it is better for her to parents to try to sponsor her siblings once they get approved for a perm res card.
  • Is that true?

2. I think she has to fill out an I-130 for each person....is that correct?

3. Does she need to meet a minimum income to sponsor them?

4. What is the processes that will happen?

5. Is there anything that i need to be aware of going in to this?

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!!!!!!

Brad.

You file an I130 for every person with supporting documents and separate fees. So for 2 parents and 3 siblings you would file 5 petitions and pay 5 fees. Parents are immediate relatives and that process takes about a year. Siblings are very slow , currently siblings are getting visas from petitions that were filed 13 to 23 years ago depending on home country and that wait will most likely get longer. The parents can file for children when they arrive providing that the children are single. That process varies depending on the age of the children . A single person can have 2 petitions ( a sibling and a parent ) which some people do if the parent is older or sick because death usually kills a petition. .

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

hi

congrats to your wife for her citizenship,

yes, it's an i130 for each person, one per parent and one per sibling. Not true, it's not that they won't be approved, siblings petitions take a very long time, anywhere from 13 to 25 years of waiting depending on the country they are from.

her parents can file for their other unmarried children, they have to be unmarried and stay unmarried as long as the parents are only LPR

she does need a minimum requirement, any person who is petitioned needs a sponsor, when you petitioned for your wife, you were her sponsor, family petitions are similar to spousal petitions

Thank you for the information. I guess that her parents will just have to sponsor her siblings once they get approved.

Funny story. Her dad got sponsored by her aunt(dad's sister) and that was like 15 years ago. He still has not heard anything from immigration. Her dad had no idea that it would take so long. He was telling me about how he got sponsored such a long time ago. I guess i have some information to give him thanks to you guys.

Brad

Thank you!
