I think the problem here is the optics. Even the DOJ questioned the timing of combining the two items. Trump will get blasted for poor optics and not acting presidential, but this is certainly in the same league. At best they should have tried to get the hostages released while they were converting (laundering) the currency, then sent the money a week or two later.

C'mon people, there is nothing here but a coincidence. After 37 years we just decided to give Iran their money back at the same time Iran decided to release some hostages. I'm sure Iran would have released the hostages without getting the money just as I'm sure we would have given them their money without getting the hostages. The current administration doesn't lie. Why didn't our government give it back to them in 1979 then? They give it back to them now, at a time when Iran is one of the biggest, if not THE biggest state sponsors of terrorism in the world?
