I-797 is missing

Hi everyone,

I really hope someone can somehow help me. I'm pretty desperate by now. My fiance and I sent a fiance visa for me in May 2016 and got a case number June 14th. When logging in at the USCIS page to check my status, is says "we received your application June 9th, if you don't receive a receipt notice by July 9th, please call custom service". Since we didn't receive anything, we called the custom service as we were told to, but they said they can't help us and instructed us to contact the embassy. Unfortunately, they also couldn't help. It's almost 8 weeks now since they received our application and we haven't heard anything back.

Si I also know about the DS-160 form, but I thought I only have to fill it out to take it to my interview appointment whenever I have sheduled one. But some sources say, I would have needed to fill it out to even start the process. Could this be the reason why I didn't receive the I-797 yet?

Can anyone help, please?

Thanks in advance.

Lina

Case number is your recept

Your case is at USCIS number you used online to check status is your case number ( call them give them case number and check status verify address and all )

Usually USCIS takes 5 to 6 months to approve case then they will send you second i797 approval letter and steps

Then your case will transfer to NVC And then follow NVC steps

Hi,

If you have an NOA1 then surely you can email updates on the progress of your application. Your Receipt notice is what comes in the mail. i don't think you should worry at this point in time .

@talalissa: Nope, didn't get any email. Neither did my fiance.

We only received an email June 14th, saying we would receive I-797 within 7-10 days. That's why I'm worried. Because we didn't receive it and it is 6 weeks ago now.

Thanks for your answers.

So would you recommend to wait for further instructions now?

And when am I supposed to fill out the DS-160? Now, or after I received the NOA2?

.

Wait on DS 160

Once your case approves approximately 5 to 6 months from submitted. Then your case wil transfer to NVC you would get new case number and recept number

Then you will file Ds160

If your case onlin says we received your case then call them and tell them You haven't got i797 in mail yet. ( sometimes they misplace mail)

Okay, thanks. Will do.

Do you know if receiving the I-797 has any influence on the process timing?

So if it takes even longer now for my case to get approved because I still don't have I-797?

The i-797 is merely a form of acknowledgement, if you can log in online which i presume or the department has given you a case number/receipt number then that form merely just states it is in processing. I try not to freak out too much because worrying never helps the situation. could the form have been lost in the post office ? did you put in a G-1145 ?
