Confused about K1 MTL interview scheduling (merged)

Hello,

Simple and noob question. I'm wondering when is the earliest time one can book their US Consulate interview? I've heard it is after you receive your NOA2, however some say after the NVC receives your case. Also, do we just bring the DS-160 to the interview or is it something you have to send beforehand also? Should I have it prepared before I receive the NOA2?

EDIT: Any idea what the waiting time is looking like for Montreal interviews also? If i were to book today what's the approximate earliest date I would get?

Thanks!

Assuming you have filed a K1, NVC must receive your case and issue a case number beofre you can schedule an interview. Once NVC forwards your case onto the embassy you can proceed with setting up for the interview.

Got it.

On the K1 flow chart under the step "Case Forwarded by NVC to U.S. Embassy in your fiance(e)'s country" it says 1-4 weeks on one side and the other says DHL will deliver it within a week.

You're from Canada, so you actually have to wait a bit more than others. You can prepare your documents and they'll mail you Packet 3 (you don't have to wait for them to snail mail it to you. You can start sending it about 3-4 days after they receive your case!) then you'll get Packet 4 in an e-mail from them.

You'll be able to schedule your interview your interview after you get the Packet 4 - then you'll have to schedule the medical.

The timeframe on the left is how long it takes to get to that step from the previous step.

The timeframe on the right gives a bit of insight as to what that steps process takes. Like a before and after kind of.

You have to have a case number to complete the DS160 and be able to send it to the embassy. (It's been quite awhile for me, but to the best of my recollection) You can look ahead to the questions and prepare your answers, but not submit. Really at a stand still until you get NOA2.

You can work on relationship evidences, pictures, etc.

Montreal only books K1 interviews on Wednesdays I believe? They have gone through spells where no one can book for a couple months because they're back logged as well.

I just had my interview last week. It's definitely only Wednesday's now, as those were the only times available for me to pick. That means if you want your medical in Montreal too (and you don't live in that area), you're going to have to go on a Thursday or so to be able to get your results back!

Hi!

So, we've received our NOA2 and tomorrow marks week 2 since that has happened, so I will be calling NVC I think.

Was wondering when is the earliest time I can schedule an interview (I'll be going to Montreal)?
I've heard it's when you receive the Packet 4, but also have heard it's when the NVC sends it off to your country's US Consulate.
And generally, how long should we expect from now until I can enter the US?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

First you need to have the case number from NVC and that currently takes at least 4 weeks - but once they have received it they soon send it to the Consulate and you can track it https://ceac.state.gov/ceacstattracker/status.aspx - using the case number from NVC.

Once it shows 'READY' I'd get your packet 3 ready and mail it to - Montreal-IV-DV@state.gov -

This is the stage I am currently at, waiting for the response and then you can book the interview after they give you packet 4.

Hi,

I have received our NVC Case and Invoice number. We are about to receive our Packet 3 and we have it ready to be mailed out. I've heard we have to wait until we receive Packet 4 from Montreal, however I see on "ais.usvisa-info.com" that I can "Create An Applicant" with my case and DS-160 number. Am I eligible to book an interview at this time, and if I try will there be problems (delays, etc.)? Thanks.

Don't book your interview until after you get packet 4. You can just e-mail Montreal now with all the scanned documents that you need and they will e-mail you your packet 4 within a few days. Once you get that, which has the information you'll need and the links!, then you'll be able to do the interview scheduling (which then leads to medical scheduling). If you do it before you get packet 4, your interview will be cancelled.

I am asking this for a friend ( i went through the k-1 process in 2013 and things may have changed since then)

He mailed his checklist off 7 weeks ago and is waiting to book his interview. Is 7 weeks a concern? Should he have heard something? He is using a lawyer and wonders if the lawyer missed an email from the Consulate
