Booking flights- how long after Interview can I expect passport?

I have my K1 Visa Interview on the 30th August (Yay! + nervous! ) and I'm looking at booking my flights right now (We're using points, so the available flights run out the closer to the date it gets) and I'm not sure what's safe to book, I want to see my Fiancé as soon as possible, and also I have a wedding I'd love to go to on the 10th September in LA.

Has anyone had their Interview at the Sydney Consulate recently and can tell me how long it took to get their Passport back? From my research it's up to 3 weeks... IS that realistic for right now? ( I'm being positive and imagining approval here!)

As the embassy states: Do not make any travel plans until visa is in hand.

You don't want to risk having to reschedule your flight because you didn't get your visa in time. Plenty of that happening on VJ.

Thanks EmilyW and Maria&Seve! I really appreciate your answers. :) Ya I've read what the Consulate says in regards to travel plans. In my situation it'd be better not to wait until my visa is in hand to make travel plans, so just wanted to put a feeler out to see whatsup! Rescheduling is not the worst thing. Appreciate it again :)

I got mine back in about 2 weeks from the date of the interview. As long as you are OK with loosing the points if you do not get your passport and visa back in time for the flight then booking for 3 weeks should be fine.

The only reason that you shouldn't get it back is if they want to do some administrative processing or there is a delay in getting the visa printed.

Good luck with everything

Cwalllace-

Do you mind me asking when you sent the email to Sydney with your DS-160 and how quickly did they schedule your interview? We have the email and the medical is scheduled next week, but we haven't done the DS-160 yet or emailed the consulate so we're curious about the timing. Any insight you have would be great. Thanks!

My agent advised me to never book a flight until visa is in hand because so many times there are unexpected delays.

Probably a bit late in replying, but I'm still settling in after entering US. I think I'm the one Dee Elle was referring to ? Had my interview Tuesday 26th had my visa in hand on the Friday 29th, booked flights same day, entered US Friday 5th August. I checked ceac everyday after interview and it said AP until the Thursday afternoon when it changed to issued, which I got the next day, as tempting as it was to book flight then, I waited until I physically had it. ?
