Hi. I need help please.

I have conditional green card and the validity expires on Aug 3rd 2016. I have already applied for the ROC and have the extension letter from USCIS with me.

Meanwhile, I have moved to Texas recently from New York. I have updated the form AR11.

I have tried to apply for a Texas state id but the officer at DMV(DPS) says that since my green card is going to expire in 2 days, she told they cannot issue a Texas state id for me. I showed them the Extension letter from USCIS but she kept saying that the letter is just confirmation of application submitted and its not a card and it doesn't have a photo too so she told she cant help, and i have to wait till i get my renewed or the new green card to apply for a texas state id. This is crazy. At least they could have provided me with a Texas state id valid for one year, same as my extension letter but no she cant help.i dont knw what to do.

Do i have any other option please? Has anyone experienced the same thing? Please let me know.

It's weird they did not even try to verify your status with DHS, they're supposed to do that.

One thing you can try is go to an InfoPass and explain your situation and see if you can get an I-551 stamp in your passport. TX DPS has to accept that as they list it on their required documents list.

Thank you for your message. It gave me some courage. She didnt even read the extension letter. i told her that the extension letter is a letter from their own Gov which says clearly that it allows me to work and travel for one year. So how can they not accept that letter. She was little rude and told me that i do not understand what shes saying and told me clearly, till you get a new green card, no Texas state id. I told that some people in california are able to get their driving license renewed with the same extension letter she says well this texas and we have different laws. i should have gone there more prepared.

I checked the Infopass to make appointment but earlierst date is aug 16th and i have classes so will wait for another date suitable. Thank you.i will try to go there and get a stamp possible.

Wow! where in TX did you move? Why not go to another location and before you are being denied again, make sure you know the following (Read thoroughly), if possible print the information and show it to the TXDPS employee the steps he or she must follow.

I know they do. However, TX DPS does NOT list expired 2-year GC PLUS extension letter as acceptable proof of legal status. They're wrong to not do so, but it seems they really are just following their (faulty) procedures.

I have moved to Dallas, Texas.

My appointment is fixed at the Dallas USCIS field office. Will update if they stamp my passport. Thanks

I was going to suggest that you get the I-551 stamp. I'm glad you decided to do this on your own.

.

Go to different DMV and try to apply for State ID. Most likely, they will not issue one, but worth trying.

Other Option: Go to different DMV and apply for Driver's License. I have received mine based on the extension letter. I consider, 100s if not 1000s of other should have received their revised driver's licenses in similar manner.

Update:

So I cancelled my appointment for USCIS on 16th and tried a different DMV as most of you suggested and luckily, this officer asked me to pass my green card, 2 address proof and the form. I did the same. She never asked me for any more documents. Took fingerprint, picture and signature and paid 16 dollars fee. she said my id will come in 2 weeks.

keeping my fingers crossed that the id would be in mail soon. Will see what to do next if incase they have any issues.
