I am currently trying to gather up my supporting documents to send to the NVC for my wife's immigration. We got married in Karachi Pakistan in 2015.

I read on here that you can translate urdu nikkah nama yourself and sign the statement that says the nikkah nama translation is true translation (as the nvc website states)

I used the english translation on pakistan consulate new yorks website to translate it.

Can anyone confirm with me if I can do this for my nikkah nama and if there will be any issue regarding this? I have already got it attested from the authorities.

If anyone has successful experience or any guidance about this and can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Don't give the NVC a reason to send an RFE. They might not accept. Its always better to be safe and get an official copy, you can easily get those in Karachi; I got mine from NADRA. Also be sure to send a copy of the original Urdu nikkah nama.

Yes you can translate your Nikah Nama yourself

make sure to include the statement:

I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and [enter appropriate language] languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled [enter title of document].

Signature

Typed Name

Address

Date

at the bottom of the translation

For NVC you should provide the Urdu Nikah Nama the translation and also send in the NADRA marriage registration certificate (make sure to provide copies and bring the originals to the interview)

Don't give the NVC a reason to send an RFE. They might not accept. Its always better to be safe and get an official copy, you can easily get those in Karachi; I got mine from NADRA. Also be sure to send a copy of the original Urdu nikkah nama.

NVC does not send RFE, they send checklists for missing or incorrect items

and yes you can self translate any document you choose by including the following statement at the bottom of the document:

I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and [enter appropriate language] languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled [enter title of document].

Signature

Typed Name

Address

Date

Many people have self translated with no problem

Consult NADRA or some Attorney who will let you know how to get English translated nikkah nama. Dont put yourself into months of wait later. You might translate it wrong. Or NVC may reject it even if you translated it right.

  • 9 months later...

We had a family friend translate ours. He included the statement indicating he knew both languages and where he lived. (See Kastrs post above)
