Where are you in the process? The joint sponsor from three years ago can't change his mind if the I-864 has been submitted abd approved. It states quite clearly on the form that his obligation ends only when the immigrant dies, permanently leaves the USA and relinquishes his green card, becomes a US citizen himself or works for 40 qualifying quarters (10 years). He signed that he agreed to this. He's in a contract with the government until one of the 4 situations occurs.

This is where i am in the process, i received the instruction letter last week and i'm applying for the IV.

The joint sponsor i had 3 years ago was for the IV i applied for 3 years ago and was denied and had to file waivers

(i-601 & i-212). The waivers were approved but the embassy took 2 years to send me the instruction letter

if the first joint sponsor from 3 years ago changes his mind, (i-864 form expired in 2013)

can someone else sponsor even though they have been working only this year?

or do they have to have been working for the last 3 years?
