I had my oath ceremony this morning. The actual ceremony took one hour, but I ended up being there for 3.5 hours because of all the procedures before and after the ceremony. I have already registered

I applied for my passport the day after my oath. I did it at the Seattle passport agency, which offers expedited service with proof of travel within two weeks. I had to leave my certificate with them. It took two days and I got it back together with my passport. I read in a different forum that if you do the regular process, they also keep your certificate and then mail it back to you with your passport. 

 

To update your SS status to citizen you need your certificate or passport. It isn't necessary to leave either behind, you just need to present either at the time you do the update and to wait 10 days from your oath date for their system to show that you are now a citizen.

 

When you petition for a relative as a citizen they just need copies of the documents required to prove citizenship of the petitioner. I believe they might ask for originals to be brought to the interview if there is one involved (parents for example do not require one, as opposed to spouses)

Sorry about the late update, but I had my interview at the San Fernando Valley office in L.A. on May 9, and my oath ceremony is scheduled on May 23 at Los Angeles Convention Center.

 

The interview went super smoothly and the officer was very nice and smiled all the way through the process. Two things I was afraid that she'd ask were never an issue. I didn't register with Selective Service, she asked, but once she found out that the failure to register was outside my statutory period, she actually called me smart for applying after the requirement was no longer relevant.

 

Before gay marriage was available in late June 2013, I had to apply for asylum to stay with my then boyfriend, now husband. I was actually approved in late May, and then we got married in early July to apply for marriage Green Card. After getting my marriage Green Card, I've returned to China twice. Nevertheless, the officer didn't even mention asylum or question my 2 short China trips even though the files were certainly on her desk.

 

Anyway, good luck to everyone that has yet to attend the interview!

02/17/2017   FP(I didn't go for my 1st FP because I wasn't ready for citizen and this is 2nd one)
04/03/2017  Interview (passed and get scheduled ceremony on April 5th but lately got phone call from IO said my ceremony was cancelled by overbooking)
04/19/2017 Did an info pass but just to be told waiting nothing wrong in my case
04/28/2017 Oath Ceremony will be scheduled

no update till now,it's been 2 weeks 

it that normal how long do I expecet to get status update to "Notice was mailed"?

Do I need to speak with L2 ?

It appears that myself, @ChristianZane and @vanhiscers87 are going to be at the same Ceremony !!

 

has anyone heard how is it for the guests that come during the Ceremony ? AFAIK we're separated from them and the only time you get to see them is at the end of the ceremony, before you're rushed out of the building to prepare for the next ceremony.... 

 

Any thoughts anyone ?

has anyone heard how is it for the guests that come during the Ceremony ? AFAIK we're separated from them and the only time you get to see them is at the end of the ceremony, before you're rushed out of the building to prepare for the next ceremony.... 

 

Any thoughts anyone ? 

There is a separate line for Oath Ceremony Attendees, and another line for Guests.  Guests are herded into a large room at the Convention Center and are not able to watch the ceremony, plus I heard it's standing room only for 3 hours, so I wouldn't bring guests unless they are prepared to wait around a long time.  When the ceremony is over I'm texting my family and they will Uber over to take some photos and have a celebratory lunch.
