I am happy to communicate that I am now a US citizen. Took the oath last Tuesday, May the 2nd alongside @babyduck at the Seattle FO.

The ceremony was scheduled for 1:30 PM so my wife and I arrived about 45 mins prior. Then went inside at 1 PM. Went through the metal detector and then directly to the waiting area upstairs (there's no need to check in at the counter in Seattle, for the oath ceremony) which is on the left (the right being reserved for interviews)

Then at 1:30 the IOs came in with some carts and asked to come forth and form lines to the side, row by row from first to last. They took our completed oath notice and green card, handed us a packet which consisted of a big envelope containing a cardboard folder for the certificate, the oath and pledge of allegiance, and the national anthem, a booklet containing facts about citizenship, a welcoming pamphlet containing rights, responsibilities and a few more steps to complete once you become a citizen, a small flag and a passport application. They assigned us a seat and asked us to go down to the auditorium.

Family and friends were already waiting downstairs as they were asked to leave the waiting area before the IOs handed the packets. They welcomed each and every one of us and took us to our seat. Once everyone was there they played some videos, such as "Faces of America", then the National Anthem.

Then they asked us to stand up when our country was called. There was a projection with a world map and every country that was called had its flag appear on the map by its country. The officer informed us this would be the last time we would stand up as citizens of our former country, for when we took a seat next we would do so as Americans. We took the oath and then took a seat as the newest Americans.

There were 37 countries represented, I believe, at my ceremony. It was amazing seeing all those faces from all over the world standing next to me, elated as I was to be there and become American by choice.

Next we were asked to form a line by the podium, row by row, and our name was called in the correct order as per our assigned seat. The senior IO who presided over the ceremony was the one to shake our hand and give us our certificate.

She then welcomed us as citizens and gave some final words before it came to and end. People stuck around to take photos and register to vote, since there was a lady there handing a registration forms.

We went upstairs to take a few photos since there was a flag and it's the same building, to avoid the crowd in the auditorium. @babyduck took photos of my wife and I, and we did the same for her and her spouse. It was great meeting her in person and sharing such a big moment in our lives, my one regret was not taking a photo with her which I would have posted here.

For those still waiting for an interview or oath date, be patient, talk to others here and stay informed. Your time will come just as mine did and I know it feels like an eternity but each person posting about their experience becoming citizens is a testament to what lies just before you.

Good luck to all, future Americans.

Hi Houston Filers,

I am new here. Wanted to share my experience with yall so we can be updated with what's going on with the unusual delay this year.

My office/ Houston

Sent N400: 08/01/16

Biometric done: 08/29/16

My case still shows just my biometric update and no single move since then.

I called uscis first time February 1st they said you still in normal processing time, then in March same thing. In April same thing.

Last call was this morning may 4th 2017

And I requested to talk to L2 officer hoping to have a different answer and he told me that

My file is in the NBC national benefits center and I have to wait my turn. I told him I am planning my trip in July overseas this year and he said you go enjoy your trip we still working on May cases. It doesn't seem to be there yet. It means my case will pass the line of 1year just to know when the interview is.

Plz share your experience and let us be updated.

@MikloGoesLegit it was wonderful to meet you and your wife! It would have been great to have a pic together!

Your explanation is very thorough and will be extremely helpful to others! Good luck to everyone else waiting.

Well, there are several things that I did figure out from the last 8 months of waiting that I have already talked about from the last few week.

1. USCIS fuc ked up IOE# system and have to resend it to FBI to do the Background check again... <--- this was the main reason and this was their Fault but we have to pay the price of waiting. ( a lot of applier from May to the end of August).

2. Too much people applied for citizenship because of the fear of deportation after the new election.

3. Houston(most likely all of the office of USCIS in Texas) is always staying on the top of the list of slowest working office in AMERICA.

4. I saw a guy from Houston just got his interview notice on April 20, 2017 and He applied his paper work on May 20, 2016... so it took 11 months to that letter, normal waiting after the letter is another month. If you are lucky enough, you will take the Oath in a week or 2, but it normally take another month after interview..... so 1 year and a month to finish....

Your PD is 08/01/16 so I guess you will get some new on or before July 1, 2017..... Good luck to you because my PD was August 23, 2016.... Keep it in mind that nothing will happen until July will have you release a lot of stress. Just like you I was feeling so desperate.... but I am done with waiting.... just put it on the side and pay attention to something else until July.

God bless America and all of our member.

Not all IOE was messed up, a ton of other IOE August filers already have oath ceremonies planned.  The election wouldn't change your status, if people applied it would have been in November and end of year, and since you applied in August it won't affect your status.  I was told however by an L2 officer that there was a flood of applicants BEFORE the election, for those trying to vote, as well as those worried about immigration issues.  Houston is one of the slowest offices in America.  Be patient, watch the posted processing time for the field office and everything will work out.

Hello everyone, tomorrow is my interview at 2pm ... i'm a little nerveous or anxious... just want to get this done.

Don't worry, if you know all the civic test questions, and you have not broken any laws, and have been truthful on all your answers in N400, you will be fine, even if they give you a 'decision cannot be made" deal, hang in there.

Ok... this is really important. Some of you might know it but here it is:
Yesterday I went to the Boston FO., and that was the best thing I ever did.

They are punctual and the very nice woman helped me to understand how all this mess works and helped my with my specific case as well.

She said:
1. IOE cases are problematic because the system wasn't actually ready for the amount of petitions it got. So... IOE holders, be aware!
2. Calling the national service number is a bad idea for three reasons: (a) they have outdated info, (b) every time you call they have to pull your file and then they put it back to the end of the pile (I don't understand how it happens with digital files, but whatever...), and (c) they cannot actually do anything about your case (even if you get through the obnoxious tier 1 to tier 2)
3. my particular case was already in queue for interview but somehow stuck. She was able to talk to her supervisor and file a request to pull it to the Boston FO . She estimates 2-3 weeks till it gets there.

In conclusion,
SCHEDULE AND INFOPASS!!!
If you dont find a spot, I was told they have 12 spots available for people who come very early in the morning - I think she said 6:30am.

****** I think this insights should be shared with all petitioners in the forum since apply to us all.*******
