I am so happy that a lot of you are seeing movement and getting interviews.  It looks like my wife still has a few more months to go, St. Paul is a little slower that everyone else :).  We are planning a European vacation soon she needed to get a Schengen visa in the meantime.  Hopefully she will get an interview before the 1 year mark.

Hi fellow August filers! been lurking here for a while. My PD is Aug 10, Mount Laurel NJ field office. Been stuck in background check (based on conversations with L2 officers) . They created a service request for me 40 days ago and no response on it though I have called a few times. Contacting my congresswoman now to follow up. Really frustrating experience as I am desperate from naturalization to come through to get my fiance here from India.

Any idea how long background checks can take? I hear some horror stories of people waiting more than a year. I did have like 26  overseas trips in the 5 years prior to filing N400, could that be the reason OR the fact that  I have a very common name.

N400 filed: Aug 16 2016

N400 approved: Oct 16 2017 (14 months!)

Did you travel to any countries that sound off alarm bells (Yemen, Pakistan etc)?  If your name is similar to many on Do Not Fly lists it could take a long time.

No Alarm bell countries LOL. Most trips were to  Mexico, South America and Carribean countries for like a week long max. Never had a problem flying so i am sure I am not on a do not fly list!

Trying to send paperwork with congresswoman so she can ask USCIS. Do you think that is effective, if the L2s only tell me that there is no update on your application and that your name check hasnt come back.  Really frustrating not knowing what is going on with your application.

I have my case pending in BG. Similar to your PD.  What is your service center?

I tried many ways, not much update.

For the people that had their interviews recently, did you take any extra paper work that was not on the letter and you ended up using? if so what did you bring that was helpful?  any questions regarding Selective Services for those that were older than 26 when they got their Green Card ?

I had mine today based on marriage. I was way too naive about the whole thing. I took the list at face value and literally brought only two things from off the list: tax returns and proof of a joint bank account. In the interview the guy asked me for "documents relating to my marriage" and I referred him to what I had already submitted because I wasn't expecting that I would need anything beyond what the paper said. He said my file was too "light," and he usually would not have approved a file like that. I was sitting there wondering what else I could have brought. He even speculated that my husband and I are separated. I was like, whaaaaat? Luckily I was recommended for approval because I have nothing more. We don't have any children. We are mooching off our parents, so we don't have any leases or bills. And I hate the idea of mingling funds. If you have a millennial type marriage, you might have a bad time at your interview. I would recommend that you take as much evidence as you can get your hands on. I'm sorry that I can't advise you on what type of documents. Good luck with your interview.

I brought originals of everything that I submitted with the original application OR newer versions of the same (i.e. most current bills, mortgage statement, and tax return), because I filed through marriage, I also brought my wife's birth certificate and her passport -- ALL just in case, he did not ask for any of this. However, the file he had was about 2 inches thick and I asked him if that's all the information they had on me, he smiled and said this is what I sent them over the years.

In all applications I sent, I have been "over-providing" and have always sent them more than they asked for, because you never know, and I assume it's no fun at all to have the experience SL&SP had (or to have to come back as bonsaix).

EastCoast, we must have had the same IO. He only requested to see my original and expired passport and driver's license. I offered my marriage, divorce and my wife's naturalization certificate and he said he didn't need them because he has them in my folder. I then noticed a large file folder on the desk so I ask him if that file folder was mine and he said, both of them as he pointed to another file. No kidding, each file was at least 4 inches tall. He stated it's all the files they have collected internally on me including the ones I sent over the years. I too went overboard and sent in a lot of supporting documents to avoid any delay or RFE (s)
