N-400 August 2016 Filers

I have been reading the posts here for a while as I am an August filler. My field office is Oakland Park, FL and I went to FP on 9/15/2016, at the same time as phunkyvida (another member here). I currently have another case pending with USCIS, other than the N-400, which is a I-130 to bring my wife over. I was called at an interview this past Thursday, 3/16/2016 for the I-130. The interview went well and the officer seemed cool, so I popped the question about what my N-400 app status was. I believe the officer was a L1, according to what the receptionist wrote on the notice letter when I got there.

The officer looked up my file and said my case status is "eligible for interview". He advised the file is still with the National Benefits Center and had not made it to them yet. So I asked if he could tell where I was in line or any other information regarding when I would get the interview letter. He said when the FO is ready to take more N-400, they advise the National Benefit Center and they send the next batch. So the FO gets the batch and schedules the interviews. That may explain why some other members here with the same FO received their interview notices at the same time.

To me this made a lot of sense and explained the wait, so I wanted to share with the rest of you. Good luck everyone!

Oh my goodness, thank you so much @uszbxt8! You have no idea what this means to me! I was seriously getting worried and was planning a trip to the Field Office myself. This is a good explanation of what is going on and it makes me feel a little less stressed out. Thank you so much! I hope we have some movement on our cases soon but I think realistically will hear mid-April or so.

Hi All,

I am a August filer.  and based on my field office (Orlando, FL) processing time (as of 01/31/2017, they are processing the 05/20/2016 applications), my guess is I probably won't hear anything till mid-April.

I have few questions hope I can get an answer here (I am really frustrated...)

  1. when they say the FO is processing 05/20/2016 applications, does it means the 05/20/2016 applications are in line for interview OR the 05/20/2016 applications are already completed the interview, in process to the oath ceremony?
  2. also, I applied for changing my name with the N400 application (just adding a middle name), how long I will have to wait from the interview to the oath ceremony?
  3. and once the oath ceremony is completed, I assume I can pick up my new passport?

thank you so much in advance!  any information here will help to ease the 7 months waiting PAIN a little bit

1. I assume that means the PD as of 5/20 just got interview scheduled currently. Whereas, the processing time before the ELIS system (IOE) was implanted used to reflect the process that the interview was complete.

2. It depends on your FO that schedules your oath date. No guarantees. Maybe someone can explain about the difference between the juridical and administrative ceremonies. Different type of ceremony may be the factor that delays your time of getting your certificate with name change.

3. You have to apply for the passport after the ceremony with your certificate and other related docs and forms. It is a chronological step after the oath.

I might be wrong, please correct me.
