Unfort cant because my process needs to be completed by my assigned date of sept 8th. the earliest interview is aug 31.

Hi,

In London - they don't allow collection of passports I got my passport back in 8 days (not 7 like it says on my timeline) so I really think you should contact your travel provider and try to push the Spanish holiday back maybe a week? Because it's unlikely that at this time of the year which is peak visa time to get an expedite and especially for a holiday. I know this isn't what you wanted to hear - sorry!

Does he need passport to travel to Spain though ? I thought within EU (putting Brexit aside - which I assumme hasn't formally happened yet) you can travel using your state ID - did that change ??

Britain isn't part of the border free Schengen area, so a passport is still required I believe.

I don't think that's entirely true - within Schengen you don't need any ID (except recently they were checking those at least few airports due to terrorist threats). For UK I believe you need an ID, but not necessarily a passport. I might be wrong since I have been travelling on US passport for few last years, but I swear I flew from Poland to UK using just an ID back in 2009 or so...

I think the link you posted exactly confirms that saying ID card _or_ passport. Bottom line - IMO - OP has nothing to worry about...

Leave the passport with embassy and go on your trip.

That's true, but I didn't think Britain had National ID Cards, hence needing a passport. Would definitely be worth looking in to though.

This discussion is going way off in a direction that doesn't need to happen. He doesn't have to cancel the trip or travel without a passport.

1. Take his passport from the interview and send it back after the trip so they can issue the visa. Has been done for years.

2.Log into account and see if an earlier appointment has opened. Pick it and release current appointment. Has been done by other UK folks.

3. Log into account and pick a new interview date that falls after the trip. Fiancé who will be coming for trip writes a new letter of intent for him to take to his interview. London asks for this if the interview is beyond the petition expiration date.
