Indonesian Passport Name Change

My wife holds an Indonesian passport. When we got married she had her passport updated with her married name. The thing is, Indonesia won't issue a new passport with the updated information on her bio page until her passport expires. So, their workaround is to stamp the inside of the passport and write by hand her new last name. It looks official but the handwriting has me little concerned.

We are traveling to Indonesia in December but not sure what last name she should use. The airlines say to use the last name that's printed in her passport. If we were flying Garuda or another Indonesian airline, I would feel more comfortable since they are probably familiar with this process. but, we are flying Singapore Airlines and not sure if they will accept the handwritten name or not.

Can any Indonesians out there tell me what last name they used when traveling with this kind of passport?

My wife recommends another work around: your wife reports her passport as lost here (and NOT in Indonesia). Then the consulate would have to issue a new passport with her married name.

If you don't want to go that route, if Singapore Air gives you problems at check-in, your wife can show her green card and other ID that has her married name (and I'd go with whatever name is on the green card for when you return to the USA).

Thanks!

I suggested the "lost" passport route but she feels she has to provide a police report, etc.

I think we will just go with what's on the endorsement page on her passport, which is her given name, maiden and married names (if they will fit, haha)

Thanks, again.
