Maybe it's nerves.....cold feet, etc........but with my wife's interview coming up soon, I am wondering about my decision not to attend, and second guessing it.

I am trying to find out as to "how" worthwhile it is for the SO to actually attend. I am not talking about "moral support", but looking for some examples of how being there, actually might have made any difference in the outcome. I decided to make this poll to get some data on whether the apporoval rate was significantly higher for those whose SO attended, or whether the final result was the same compared to those interviews, where the SO did not attend, and if there was much difference at all.

We can all agree, it would be great to be there with your fiance/fiancee or wife/husband , etc.........but it's not always possible, and there are other factors like the cost, arranging time off from your job, etc... that make the decision to attend, more difficult.

There are a lot of pros and cons to weigh.........

I went to Melindas interview in the Philippines. the Consul told me to sit down and shut up and not say a word, so I didn't. He then gave Melinda a list of hard questions and she answered them all perfectly. We were approved and flew home together 12 days later.

It really depends on your consulate. My consulate really approves of couples coming in together and I think my presence made a difference (I voted that it did although of course I can't be sure). My husb's visa was approved.

Made no difference that Jerry wasn't there. I actually think he would have been more of a hindrance than a help -- he gets way more nervous about things than I do.

On the day that I went for my interview, I know of one married couple (who showed up together) that got approved, and one couple that got denied. I really don't think that in the case of Montreal, the absence or presence of the SO makes much of a difference.

It was really impractical for me to go to the interview and my vacation was better saved for when my fiancee (now wife) and stepdaughter arrived in the USA.

They both got approved without any problems. The embassy stated that it wasn't necessary for me to be there.

I did not attend, and my fiance's visa was approved YESTERDAY!

I believe it is dependent upon respective consulates - I don't think in Paris it makes a difference, but like Alex said, it's probably likely that her being at her fiance's interview really helped.

I attended Luz's interview and it was approved. The CO did ask me a few questions. I think it makes a difference because it shows a continuing commitment to your fiance`. You took the time and expense to be there.

Don't worry so much. Also keep in mind, you are applying for your wife and not a fiancee. The consulates know there are legitimate reasons that the USC might not be able to attend. Your wife should be prepared to explain your decision, but other than that just make sure your paperwork and evidence is in order and strong.

Casablanca does not allow the USC to attend.

  • 4 months later...

I went to my wife's interview and the consul just asked me 2 or 3 questions to assess my income. Mostly he asked my wife questions. And we got the visa after 2 days. And we flew together after 4 days....

I don't think in our case it made any difference if I was there or not. I did not attend and he was approved. I know of many other couples who went through India where the SO could not attend and still they were approved.

It might differ from country to country what they expect so I don't know.
