When we came in at JFK, we both went to the US Citizen's Line. When we stepped together to the window, I told the officer that my spouse was a new immigrant. Someone came and escorted us both to the "secondary room" where we waited for less than 10 minutes before clearing.

Of course, it depends upon the time of day you enter, and how many people are in the lines!

Best of luck!

Thanks alot. So you didn't stand in the visitors line? We will enter at 7:30am to 8am in the morning. Though we have no hurry cz the connecting flight is 6hrs after ? Just wanted to be sure I can be with him the whole time.

No, we didn't go to the Visitor's Line. As a US Citizen, I figured it was my right to enter the US Citizen's Line with my spouse. We received no hassles. We are a same-sex couple, and the CBP officer was pleasant, curious as to how long we'd been together, and congratulated us on our marriage, and he welcomed my spouse to the USA.

I was very positive (in my mind) that going through the US line would be OK.

My husband will have a 2 hour layover at LAX for his POE. Is that enough time to reach his flight to JFK airport?

How long does the interview and luggage check take?

One never knows, FxL. If 10 international flights come in at the same time, then 2 hours might not be enough time. If your husband's flight is the only one landing in a particular time slot, he might have lots of time on his hands.

He'll have to go through the primary immigration line first - and then go to "secondary" where his paperwork will be examined, and the officer will enter the information into the system.

Then he'll have to go collect his luggage (which should have already arrived and be going round and round on the carousel), clear customs, and then re-check his luggage at the counter just outside the customs hall.

Depending on his airline, he'll probably have to go from the international terminal to the domestic terminal and go through security again.

So it could be a little tight if he gets hung up in the first steps.

But don't despair! We got through JFK's immigration process in 15 minutes!

It really depends on the volume of people coming through at the same time.

Best of luck to him - and congratulations to both of you!

It might be pointless to post this, but anyway... It's been 10 days since my IV/AOS packet was received at NVC. I received the e-mail from them saying that they will review it "within 30 days" since 8/16. Now, would it be too early to call NVC to check if it has been reviewed? I've heard of instances in where they are not so consistent with sending their e-mails and whatnot, so you won't really know if it has been completed or not. Also, I've seen other timelines in where there has been a CC within 8-10 days of the packet being scanned (I'm not saying that it might be my case, but who knows... it might take longer, I don't know.) But yea, I'm getting a bit anxious with this, what if I get an RFE? I would rather know so I can try to fix things as soon as it comes up.

By the way, congrats to those who have gotten a Case Complete and interviews set up!

I can't wait to get to that stage. :clock:

Well 10 days for a mailed in AOS/IV not yet. That 8 to 10 days are the EP countries.

Unless you had an expedite that 30 to 45 days will apply. Of course you are always free to call as much as you want.

But I would also keep an eye on the ceac screen for that 3rd N/A. The AOS changing from PAID to N/A is CC.

Just hang on you just started. But at day 30 I would be mindful of that status.

The CC email comes 7 days after you get case compkete.

Wow, thanks for all the information! He's most likely to miss his flight but it's our fault for being too excited. Well, this journey will have a happy ending no matter how much longer he takes to land in JFK (L)

How old can the pictures be? We have 2 left from the first time we went pictures to the USCIS in February? Is it better to get new ones for medical and interview?

How did you guys go about the airplane tickets? Did you wait till approved at the interview?

Hey E&E. I think its safer to get new pictures for medical and interview. Just in case they tell you to turn around and have a more recent photo taken. My husband gave pictures of him with a buzz cut but before interview shaved his his hair and went in as a skin head (ew! i know), and so the person looking at the ID photo wasn't satisfied with the contrast difference so he went and took a new photo at a nearby booth. But that's just our ridiculous experience lol.

The moment my husband received his interview date we already went and booked a flight because I was too excited.

Our timeline:

Interview: Aug 15

Received visa: Aug 19

Flightbooked: Aug 31

You should get new pics. this interview pic will be what will be on the green card Buying a ticket that's your choice I sure wouldn't. Visa machines break, people get put in AP at the easiest embassies. But if you have a ticket that doesn't cost too much to change than that's your choice. I am like immigration "don't make travel arrangements until visa is in hand".

Oops didn't mean flight booked. I meant husbands flight is on Aug 31. We booked it around the end July when we knew his interview ?

We took the risk to book a flight against immigration advice. Thankfully everything went alright.
