Yes you have to open an account with CGI they will be the ones you get your visa back from. Go on their site and register a new account and follow the instruction. Very easy. Good luck on your journey.

Thanks! Very helpful advice. I created an account and chose the Citic Bank branch near me as the pick-up location, still can't believe the interview letter didn't care to mention it.

I was an international student on F-1 visa

Stupid question but do we need to take photographs to the medical?

Maybe you should contact the clinic to make sure. I did mine in China and they requested TEN passport size photos lol

Case Complete: July 14th, 2016

Case Expedite request granted: July 29th, 2016

Interview Letter emailed received: August 10th, 2016

Consulate Interview date: August 23rd, 2016

edit: forgot to add that is this for the US Consulate in Almaty, Kazakhstan

So quick update. My IR1 visa was approved today! The Consulate told me to pick up my passport with the visa tomorrow after 3pm.

All together the entire process from mailing I-130 to the Interview and visa approval took basically 7 months (mailed the I-130 on 01/25/16). This was with case expedite granted, without it I estimated the interview to take place in late September based on my calls to the Almaty Consulate.

The interview questions were similar to what people on this forum have been saying before:

1. How did you meet your wife?

2. When and where was your wedding?

3. Have you traveled to the US before and if so, have you ever overstayed your visa?

4. Where will you and your wife live after moving to the US?

5. What do you do for a living, can you continue in your area of profession once in the US?

I highly recommend showing any joint back statements to help your case if you have any. I had pictures, emails and FB conversations, they didn't even ask for that. We got married back in 2011, maybe there is a cut off time for pictures as proof. However, the consul specifically asked if we had any joint bank accounts.

Good luck to all the pending cases and scheduled interviews in the near future! This forum has been extremely helpful for finding information, but even more helpful for calming my nerves. The wait was very frustrating, but reading about other people waiting as well helped get a better picture of the process. Dealing with all the paperwork and bureaucracy has been a "Delightful Nightmare", but the end result is well worth it.
