I would strongly advice you to wait until you get your GC. Any job that you get, HR will ask you to show proof that you are legal to work in US. That means either a GC, US passport, Citizenship certificate, work permit, or Work visa. SSN does not fulfill all the requirements...

It would be a waste of time for you and the company if you could not provide it by the time you get hired. So, why take risk and burn bridges with employers....

Use your time to get to know US and its culture.... Believe me, once you start working, you won't have any time for anything.. because we just work work work.... ;-)

Take care...

This is so not true. Everyone immigrating (I-130 petition people) have a temporary stamp in their passport. There is no need to have to wait for the Greencard.

In fact fir many it's taking 120 or more

Sorry but no way my husband is waiting 4 months to work.

A SSN and your passport with your 1 year temp greencard is all that's needed for most jobs. Yes there are some jobs, like teaching that want that physical card which is unfortunate.

May be that's the case... however I thought the stamp in passport was only works to travel outside country and back... one of my friend's wife had hard time convincing HR regarding that so I advice to wait until GC.

All the best! Let us know if this works for you. It would be good to know so my wife don't have to wait for 4 months to look for job :-)

There are some administration's that are clueless. The visa stamp states,

"Upon endorsement serves as Temporary I-551 Evidencing permanent Residence for 1 year."

The endorsement stamp (your POE arrival processing stamp) is by the visa.

Sorry your friend had issues but they should have been told to call immigration. That company could have been sued by your friend for loss of job due to their ignorance.

Had my interview yesterday and APPROVED! :dancing::dancing::thumbs::)

Looong wait but only got asked two questions specific to my case. So happy very happy!

1. How did you meet your husband

2. When did your husband go to the US

They asked everybody these questions:

1. Have you ever been outside your country

2. Have you ever been arrested

3. Who is filing for you

Can't wait to be with him (L)

congrats my dear

Bring updated Federal income tax information to the interview. If a sponsor filed an I-864 (Affidavit of Support) and provided the NVC with proof of an IRS Federal income tax extension in lieu of a Federal income tax return, bring the sponsor's most recent Federal income tax return to the visa interview.

Do i need to fill out the I864 again?

I sent everything to nvc from joint sponsor's, household member's and my s2013-2015 Irs tax transcripts, w2's, recent pay stub, and 1040 forms last june 25 2016. Do i need to bring everything to the interview?

I will answer this again for this year, since it was a huge question last year.

"Bring updated Federal income tax information to the interview. If a sponsor filed an I-864 (Affidavit of Support) and provided the NVC with proof of an IRS Federal income tax extension in lieu of a Federal income tax return, bring the sponsor's most recent Federal income tax return to the visa interview."

This sentence is the singularly MOST confusing of anything that NVC has ever written. It is standard on the P4 letter, and it generates more questions that any other instruction. Here is the translation...

IF it is after April 15th, and IF you did NOT submit 2015 tax returns with your AOS package (I-864), bring updated Federal income tax information with you to the interview. IF you have a sponsor who filed an extension for 2015 (this means either the US Citizen or a co-sponsor), and your I-864 packet included proof of an IRS Federal income tax extension in lieu of a Federal income tax return, bring the sponsor's most recent (meaning 2015) Federal income tax return to the visa interview.

Check and see if you have any of the "IFs" mentioned above. If not, then you do not need to bring any updated tax information to the interview.

So if my wife comes here to US after interview and returns back to home country to tie up some things before her green card arrives and then fly back to US she can use the visa stamp that is issued after interview for multiple entries. ( CR-1 ) Because green card can take 3 months to receive.

Congratulations!!!! That's wonderful news! :D

Please leave a consulate review with interview details when you have a chance!

Thank you all

Quick review;

My wife’s interview was scheduled at 8AM; however she was interviewed around 1PM.

She was interviewed by nice African-American pregnant women

The interview was quick with typical interview questions, where and when did you meet , how many times I visited her , questions about my job and her job and she asked about wedding photos (she kept one).

If this is your first time using cgi site, you have to first create an account (set up a new account). Medical appointment is scheduled directly with hospital.

Thanks,
