We filed for a CR-1 visa approximately five months ago and the immigration office sent us a letter stating they need the "Village registry reflecting the entry of the marriage" She is from China where can we get this documentation? I want to make sure that I get the exact document the government wants.

Chinese documentation is issued to Chinese - and International - standards, NOT based on what the government wants.

You should have been issued red books - one for each of you - and gotten a "white book" translation of this as a marriage certificate for use overseas. This is exactly what is EXPECTED.

If you DID include the "white book" marriage certificate, you might send copies of the red book you received when you got married in response to the RFE. I would recommend that you NOT try to send a copy of her hukou registry, as this might open a little can of worms - the hukou is NOT needed.

My guess is that you DID include the white book marriage certificate, and that this is simply a BS RFE issued by a USCIS bureaucrat who doesn't understand the situation with Chinese documentation
