Hello, I'm on k1 visa and we will marry very soon. I was wondering, after reading about taxes, sahould my wife file joint taxes instead of separate since the latter is more expensive ?

I have zero income from my home country, so will this be a problem ? Just looking for the best way to avoid paying a lot of taxes.

Yes, you should file taxes jointly. Your wife will pay more in taxes if she filed separately.

Since she is not married now, she is not your wife. For 2015, she files as single.

If she is married on December 31, 2016, then you guys can file married filing jointly for Tax Year 2016.

We are marring in one week, so I think she already filled for 2015. For 2015, she was single.

And for 2016 we file jointly, and report my income as zero, right ? For 2016, you can file jointly if you are married. If you make no money in the US, then your income would be zero. You don't expect to work this year at all? If you apply for AOS next week after getting married, then you can get an EAD by November. Lots of seasonal jobs at the end of the year.
